It sounds like you are in a good way with your weight, shape, and all. Albeit I'm busting my ass, I've still got some toning to do to get where I want to go. I've made some great gains and am in great shape. My caloric deficits are really good right now. It's about staying the course and making incremental improvements to diet and lifts. One thing about my body as may pertain to you is it is hard to completely give up on sugar especially when your body is aching for fuel. But, now I'm trying to cut out sugar and fructose. The damn PowerAdes are my vice (albeit I water down). Chocolate can be as well. But, now I'm trying to cut it all out. Sigh. Any electrolyte mix that you can recommend to mix with water that can replace something like a gatorade and has decent flavor? I'm on the prowl. The diet gatorades and powerades are bad as well. I'm also switching away from seed oils to avocado oil for cooking and EEVO for dipping/marinades. And, adding apple cider vinegar to my daily routine.
You’re better than me man, I have a bad sweet tooth. I do have the control to fight it off, but that’s only so I can have some adult beverages during the weekend lol. Im honestly not real knowledgeable with supplements or electrolyte replenishment. I’m pretty much a water or unsweet tea drinker. As far as the oils, I stick to Olive oil and avocado oil. I think it makes a big difference overall health wise. My last check up for a guy over 40 was pretty good. They still say I’m borderline obese because of my BMI ( I hate this metric) it is not appropriate for any type of athletic person
Yea...I love my cold brew black tea unsweet. I go through a gallon a day or so. I add lemon juice which kicks it up a notch. I try to split between water and tea throughout the day. That's where I'm headed. I love PowerAde, though, especially the pink lemonade one. The green one comes in second. I water it down but, at a certain point, it becomes too much water and not enough PowerAde. It's a delicate balance.
This is the "cleanest" electrolyte option out there that I've found: EDIT: Weird I can't link directly to it. Try googling: Ultima Replenisher Hydration Electrolyte Powder Also, take it from me, you're wise to limit or even avoid whey... https://greatist.com/health/whey-protein-acne
That looks like a good product. I'll give it a shot. I didn't like the other ones I was looking at because of some of the ingredients. Thanks. Guess I'll try the Grape. I've never been a big user of Whey. At one point in my life, I had very good success with soy protein powder and bars from a company called Genisoy. I was kicking ass and taking names later back during that program. I was doing 5 -6 meals a day. Lost a bunch of weight and put on muscle. Now, many are saying soy protein isolate is highly processed using chemicals and doctors recommend to avoid it. It's an ingredient common in processed foods. Everyone always said choose whey over soy but I did soy successfully at one time. I guess whey would have made for better gains...and acne. lol
I haven't tried grape yet. I can tell you that Raspberry and Cherry Pomegranate are surprisingly good though and Lemon tastes totally fine.
I'll buy a few smaller sized ones to start to make sure I find the flavor that agrees with me. One person said grape was good and that was all I had to go on.
I'm a little confused. I see some readings say .8 grams of protein per 1 kllogram of body weight. Then, others say you don't need nearly all that protein to build muscle and excess protein just gets converted eventually into fat b/c a lot of it goes unused for muscle building. One guy said six eggs could provide the equivalent of a day's worth of protein and was enough. Said it was studied and applies whether young or old. Also, said that your body alone generates 20 grams of protein that is digested daily aside from whatever you take in. Is .8 protein per 1 kg body weight outdated advice now? Or, is that more applicable to real serious weight lifters? Just trying to find where the truth lies cause I'm not clear based on conflicting information and sources. FU WORLD! You're not getting enough protein! You're getting too much protein! Rabble! Rabble! Rabble!
To add on to your confusion, too much protein can also lead to kidney stones, so be careful with supplements.
I started breaking out something fierce on whey. I didn't for several months, but now even months after completely cutting it, if I have any sort of milk product whatsoever I can count on at least one pimple. I'm hoping that in another month or two my body will reset. I've heard to stay away from soy too. Although I did do a pea protein for a while which could have had soy in there. Now I do an Orgain protein, which many evidently don't find "pure" enough, but it's supposedly free of soy and phytoestrogens at least. I was worried it wouldn't be as effective but it seems okay. I would love to quit all the protein drinks and all the extra eating because it's a royal PITA, it's not cheap, and there are other side effects to worry about when consuming high amounts of protein, but it's definitely got me leaner and more muscular. Guess once I reach my goals I'll try tapering off and see what happens. I shoot for 200 grams of protein a day minimum and will up my amino acids when I know I'm not over that number. I think based on past results that something closer to 250 grams a day would be ideal for me, but it becomes a full-time job to consume so much.
To add to both your confusion A number of doctors/scientists are recommending around 1.2+ grams per KG (of ideal body weight), but it seems to be tied with age and exercise/activity levels, and it perhaps might be beneficial to do cycles of high protein / low protein (or fasts) instead of just one speed all the time?
I’ll be the CF lab rat for protein intake. I’ve made my decision. I’m eating a full brisket once a week. IGF1 and M-TOR be damned!
I've been having heart palpitations from fast weight gain and stress lately. Getting back on it is making it go away. I don't wish these palpitations on anybody
Gained almost 30 pounds since the pandemic started, but have lost 15 pounds since 2023 started! Mainly due to my diet (been fasting 36 hours once a week, upping my protein intake) and also switching to full-body workouts (deadlifts, squats, and bench presses) since I don't have the time to workout 4-5 times a week like when I was younger. I realized I've never averaged more than 100 grams of protein in any year of my life and have made that switch this year to attempt to get at least 150 daily (I weigh about 190 right now). Even though I'm losing weight, I've actually been able to increase my deadlifts and squats while maintaining my bench press strength. I take the following protein powders that have been helpful for me and have no side effects. I normally can't ingest more than one scoop of whey protein without destroying my gut. I dont what the hell it is, maybe the vaccine? new anxiety? Ekg and cardiac enzymes were normal but haven't done a stress test. Im even laying off the coffee
