Been known that you don't pay a 40 year old pitcher big money especially one that chokes in the postseason.

Another smart move by our FO

I get why someone wants to get "paid" but at this point in JV career he`s made a ton of $$$, why not stick it out with the Astros who have a good chance of getting back to the WS, at this point in his career I would think winning the pennant would be his primary motivation and not chasing the $$$$

On the flip side, he already won. Wouldn’t that be the time to cash out? Nobody in here would take less than what they’re worth.

He was never going to pitch for the Astros for free. Crane would have spent for one year probably at the same rate.

Not jumping for joy hearing the news, ex-Astros just like Yuli, Marvin, Springer and Correa.

I don't think JV owes us anything but he got paid well when the Astros stuck with him 2 years without playing and everyone else counted him out. I was hoping that was going to count for something but that's not how the business works I guess.

If I was a professional athlete I’d take a haircut depending on the situation if I had already made somewhere in the order of $500 million via salary, endorsements, putting that money to work and other avenues.

What’s another $20 million at that point?

Easy for you to say. Half of what he made is gone after taxes. There are so many expenses that rich people have plus if he's smart he's thinking about how to live well once he's retired for the rest of his life.

And you're assuming that JV isn't a competitor, and doesn't want a bigger challenge of helping the Mets win their first WS in a long time, as opposed to pitching for the Astros.

Plus Kate Upton most likely thinks Houston is boring compared to NYC. She used to model and stuff, I bet she is excited to be living in NYC again.

There are a million reasons that JV would choose to leave us for a different team, and many of them have nothing to do with being greedy.

There are plenty of examples where professional athletes have taken less in their careers.

It’s not unheard of and it’s definitely something someone might do.

None of those other considerations you listed were part of the post I was responding to.
