Jaden Hardy? Man you people be reaching. The dude who averaged 8 ppg on 36% of his fgs made self created vs 60% for Green? The dude who has Luka and Kyrie setting him up spot up easy buckets?
Nah. If Jalen Green scores a lot and is efficient, he will get lots of attention and praise (and deserve it). That isn’t the player he is right now. It’s very possible he will be that player, but he isn’t yet. Mobley does what the Cavs ask him to do offensively. They don’t want or need him to put the ball on the floor and create. He has been asked to scale back offensively and he has done that. Defensively he has been good enough to make the All NBA Defense team. Right now Mobley is a better player than Green. That may not be the case a year from now.
Hmm I trust the side that each time a point is made they provide reasonings, context and data rather than just repeat the same premises and call it a day. You brush of context and just repeat the same narrative about efficiency. Again there isn't a single player in his draft class that would be efficient given Green's role and situation. And like I said before with something like defense there is a reason why Kobe Bryant won multiple undeserved all defensive team awards at the tail end of his career. The way fans rate defense is through reputation so any improvement by players who havea bad reputation either has a long lag time before causal and national recognition or never will get noticed. Green since the all-star break has substantially improved on that side.
I have posted numbers and had this discussion with you before, and being COVID+ and on my phone and not laptop, I really don’t feel like digging them back up. Mobley’s likely offensive role in 2023 changed substantially the minute they traded for Donovan Mitchell. They want him to score on put-backs and offensive rebounds, and that is what he has done. As for defense, Mobley is elite already and according to his own head coach, the most important player they have on that side of the ball. I find some of the defense odd (not just you, but others). I have never said Mobley will be better LONG term, only that he is better right now and I think it’s hard to argue that he isn’t right now. If Green takes a good sized jump, he will be better than Mobley. Right now Green isn’t efficient enough or good enough defensively to be better than Mobley.
Rockets d rating with Green pre ASB: 122 Rockets d rating with Green post ASB: 127 Basically what you're saying is that there were a few games a few weeks back where he didn't look as visibly disinterested - this is true! But, c'mon man, the bar is so low for him now - it's depressing to see it keep getting rationalized away
Playoff spots are rarely won in March so he better be cooking by December and January like Harden always did. This whole Jabari and Green finding themselves after the All Star break after 60 games of mediocre play would be an old hat. This is exactly what young people do these days, flex, show boat and dunk when the team is down or losing.
They are looking better and better. You say they have to better for more of the season for any hope of the playoffs. Thanks
Lol dude this is so stupid. Almost every game we've played after the break were teams fighting for seeding.
Like the Hawks gifted 40+ points to Green in his rookie season 1 year ago in a meaningless game? Of course games after ASB mean something but it's not like winning games would make or break for most of the teams. Winning means more to a young team than to some vet team that has resources to be a playoff team next year as well.
Trae Young played that whole game. If they didn't care they would just rest their players. I believe the hawks were fighting for seeding. Again, your narrative basically erases the possiblity of young players simply improving as the year goes by. For Jabari half a NBA season is literally half his NBA career. So rapid improvement for a player with that little amount of experience is rather common.
Lol the original point wasn't even competition. It was that Green failed to pace himself for a season. He is a pro and he has to learn it. This has been the 2nd year he started out the season worse than he ended the season. That is just facts you of all people can't deny. If you want to have a successful season, winning in winter should be key. Starting slow isn't an option.
This is exactly correct. Good post. I wouldn’t trade Green straight up for Mobley, because of Green’s upside, but Mobley definitely has the highest floor. He will make at least a couple of all-star games at some point. I think Green will continue to add muscle and with a better supporting cast could be an offensive superstar and decent defender (he has improved recently), but it is still a possibility that he is never an efficient player.
Jalen Green also is a sophomore who had to learn new types of defensive coverages. His role is different this season than last season. This requires an adjustment period. A single game for Green is still a lot of experience added for him. He's still at that stage of his career
Whatever next year's projected total wins for the Rockets is, I'm slamming the under. If KPj is still on the team then I'm betting the house.
