I'd rather have the 3rd member of Destiny's child as the mayor

She`s been fighting the good fight for so many years now, but as RR said, wouldn't this be a downgrade? I don't dislike Mayor Turner, he doesn't seem to have a ton of baggage or at least I haven't heard of any.

She actually has a great shot to win. The real question is who runs for her seat if she wins. Talk about a battle royal.

timing seems genuinely off, but Turner hung around long enough to get over Dolcefino and Brown was chief in one or two other cities before beating Steve Rhodes Mosbacher and El Tesorero Cubano Que No Conocia Habia Sido Designado Como Tal, Y Tantas Veces

Turner was actually a very competent legislator in the state house. I don't share the same sentiment about Sheila Jackson Lee. For someone who has been in Congress for ages, she's accomplished very little (other than making sure the cameras see her at SOTU speeches). Other members of the delegation like Al Green or Sylvia Garcia have done lots of useful work in Congress and work for their constituents.

I even worked for Congresswoman Lee's office in the early 2000s when I was in undergrad. The staff was terrified of her and utterly despised her. IShe tended to treat me much better than the other staff because I was Indian and well spoken (so she had me speak at constituent meetings all the time). But even then, she yelled at me nonsensically plenty of times.

Now I'll say that there are a lot of members of Congress and Senators that are privately terrible to their staff and there's a lot of sexism in that female legislators who are angry and terrible tend to get singled out while male legislators usually get a pass.

But she was both terrible and did virtually nothing in Congress so I really don't have a lot of nice things to say about her.

Turner is term limited. He can't run again.

Poor things. They have lost control of Houston probably for good. The small elite who run the GOP are not numerous enough to win. As they keep doubling down on being anti-to immigrant and wanting their rural fellow thinkers in Austin to control Houston they have little chance except for voter suppression.

Sheila will be supported by Lina and the Repubs with their new friend Whitmire have a little chance.

Wasn't implying he could; although admittedly tongue-in-check, was just noting the amount of time it took for a spot to open up after he lost the first time, and that it was somewhat remarkable he was still a viable frontrunner after that many years.
