You should revisit Texans history and see what happens if you passed on Von Miller at 3 and traded back to 11. Or maybe in 2014 you should have passed on Clowney and traded back for Aaron Donald at 13. Saying you won't is just admitting you haven't done your homework.
Everyone has 20/20 hindsight. Every team in the NFL could do what you just did and reevaluate past drafts on the picks they should have or should not have made,
I don’t think I’m right. I think they are drafting Stroud or Young, but the Texans are absolutely doing the right thing at keeping it close to the vest and seeing what they could get trading down. What if they get a deal like Chicago got for the first or better, they might take it. I don’t think we know. I don’t think FA points to anything in particular other than Carter not being their guy. They haven’t got a real pass rushing threat at the ends or a decent center. They also haven’t really done much in the WR mode. I think they are just looking for value adds and depth at all positions, not doing anything special to indicate they are taking a QB.
Revisionist history is an awful take. If you want to trade down, all well and good and well but revisionist history is ridiculous, in contrast you can argue the other way too. In exchange for Wentz (pick 2), the Browns have received: Wide receiver Corey Coleman (33 catches, 324 yards and three touchdowns over 10 games during rookie season) Offensive tackle Shon Coleman (62 snaps in 2016) Quarterback Cody Kessler (6 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 1,380 yards passing in eight starts last year) Wide receiver Ricardo Louis (18 receptions for 205 yards in 2016) Safety Derrick Kindred (12 appearances, five starts, 30 tackles and five passes defensed in 2016) Wide receiver Jordan Payton (four apperances, one catch for three yards in 2016) Offensive tackle Spencer Drango (599 snaps in 2016; graded by Pro Football Focus as 'average') Safety Jabrill Peppers Quarterback DeShone Kizer They could've drafted any of and been better off than the haul Bosa, Rmasey, Stanley, Buckner, Tunsil, Kelly
Surely the Texans have an idea of who they want already? Bringing in all of the QBs is just another way to avoid tipping their hand. I'd assume the same with Carolina who but knows.
The Houston Texans have the second overall pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. Speaking on the draft, Head Coach Demeco Ryans had an interesting take in regards to the size of prospect Bryce Young, reports Gallery Sports’ John McClain. “I know there’s a lot of talk about his size, but the guy’s done it at the highest level of college football, and size doesn’t seem to be a problem,” Ryans said when asked about Young. “I don’t see it as an issue because I watch the tape. You put on the tape, and you see how smart he is – the anticipation, the accuracy, how this guy’s calm in critical moments. When you see those things, size isn’t one of the factors you look at and say, ‘Oh, man, it’s a problem.’ You just look at the track record and see what he’s done in the SEC and how successful he was, and I think he’ll be successful in the NFL as well.” These are very strong comments from a coach who will have a great chance at selecting Young. Ryans indicates that size isn’t even a factor in his evaluation of the young quarterback, especially when emphasizing his play at Alabama in the SEC. The SEC is considered the toughest conference in college football, and Young had a highly decorated career that included a Heisman Trophy in 2021. His size proved to be of little importance during his days with the Crimson Tide.
Stroud = Jabari Young = Paolo All the smoke was Jabari/Orlando right until the pick. Most of the smoke is Stroud (or even Richardson)/Carolina. Now I’m thinking they’ll take Young and Texans take Stroud. “You’re crazy and reading too much into things.” … Maybe. https://theathletic.com/4354407/2023/03/27/panthers-nfl-draft-top-pick-quarterback Fitterer said the trip confirmed his pecking order for at least three of the top four quarterbacks in the draft. Florida’s Anthony Richardson’s pro day is Thursday. Based on conversations with sources who attended last week’s pro days, the sense here continues to be that Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud are the Panthers’ top choices. But one thing Fitterer did not learn on the QB tour is who Reich’s top choice is — because Fitterer doesn’t want to know. “Frank and I had that conversation in his office. I said, ‘Don’t tell me who you like until we get down to it,’” Fitterer said Monday during a break at the NFL owners’ meetings. “As you go through the process, it gets more and more clear. But we’re still going through that.”
Watson was a fan pick as well. True they needed a QB, but they needed talent added to the roster before they picked their QB. See: The Browns getting a top 5 pick. Kubiak talked McNair out of picking a QB that scored a 6 on his wonderlich.
I've been a season ticketholder for the last 2 decades, I'm pretty in tune with the McNair's priorities.
For your logic to be accurate you would need to show a pattern of their picks being for the benefit of the fans to put butts in the seats. Since Watson, which of the Texans first picks fit that criteria?
I went to the very first game and have watched them ever since. You being a season ticket holder means squat.
There have been non in the 2 years since Watson, 1st year they didn't have high picks and picked Mills anyway. Last year was a bad QB year. This is the year that they're going to reach, NRG was a ghost town last year.
