I'm not that worried. He actually doesn't have the same level of jumping as prime DRose or even Morant. He actually doesn't elevate that well on drives. Greens strength is his first and second step and can pretty much accelerate past most defenders without needing a pick
Jalen Green in year 2 has a 108 offensive rating averaging 22 ppg on 54% TS Bradley Beal in year 2 had a 103 offensive rating and averaged 17 ppg on 51% TS Devin Booker in year 2 had a 103 offensive rating and averaged 22 ppg on 53% TS Anthony Edwards in year 2 had a 108 offensive rating and averaged 21 ppg on 56% TS
Jalen Green doesn't elevate that well on drives? What? I swear your experience of seeing other athletic guards is from their mix tape and not seeing them night in and night out on all their drives they fail at. If you saw Derrick Rose night in and night out you'll see the highlight plays and the plays where he miss times his steps and jumped flat footed and getting stuffed at the rim. That's probably why you might have this odd perception that Green doesn't elevate on drives. Like I was fine with the claim that Green doesn't get as high as Rose or Morant especially considering those guys are shorter players but saying Green doesn't elevate on drives is silly.
Compared to Ant that offensive rating is rather impressive given that Green is generating that offensive rating without players at the level of DLo and KAT playing next to him.
Just improving the freebies and his three point shot by a little margin would add another 3 extra points to his scoring average. 36% from three and 84% from the line is so doable for him for next season. And if the refs blew the whistle more, you're talking about 29 points a night without much effort.
I stand by what I said, I don't think Jalen elevate on drives compared to his actual vertical. I don't know that's intentional or not. Jalen doesn't really explode off two feet in a crowd as well as a Rose, Morant, Zion etc. He needs open space and a huge run way to get off the ground as high as his max vertical. On most drives, he tries to beat the guards off with quickness and than squeeze by the help defender instead of challenging them vertically. I don't think it's a bad thing, I also don't think Zach Lavine or Wiggins elevate well on drives despite their vertical leap. It's just a different play style
Jalen Green has plenty of plays where he is at max very near the rim and does some double clutch lay in over a 7ft defender. Jalen doesn't have the strength to dunk over and on top of players. I'm not claiming that Green has the same vert at the rim as Morant for example. Morant is also mich shorter. You made a claim that Green doesn't elevate to the rim. Scrub to 3:50 to see what I mean. Green is known for being a hoberman sphere in the air where hell contort in air after an initial contact. Again he isn't at the level of strength yet to jump through players but he definitely has some of the most hang time while trying to finish in the entire league.
Individual offensive rating has some noise involved. But ppg on TS% is a good measurement of how efficient a scorer is on volume shooting. 54% TS still needs to improve, but guys like Beal and Booker are good benchmark. These players are all gifted scorers playing on poor teams in their sophomore year. Beal never has a good playmaker on his team. Booker's TS% jumped several tiers after they got Rubio for a year and then CP3.
Green definitely has plenty of lift on his dunks, the strength thing is definitely a factor. He also has a graceful playstyle rather than say a younger Westbrook where he'd just power through you with sheer aggression. Give him more time in the weight room and let him figure out his athleticism will do a lot of the work and he's going to be terrifying. He's a fair bit taller than Russ... Look at KJ as an example tbh, he's always flown but the power he dunks with now is much more than he had coming in. Jalen's slender and wirier than either Russ or KJ, but he's still got plenty of room to pack on size on his frame, when he's a grown as man with a few years of NBA weight training he's going to be an absolute monster of a high flyer.
Greens doing all this while in a poor offensive system with not a lot of offensive talent around him and on the worst three point shooting team. Imagine if he had the spacing that Morant has with snipers all over the court. He would have a much easier time getting to the rim. I don't think it's surprising that Greens numbers have gone up at the same time Jabari has become an outside threat
ROY Scottie Barnes is averaging 16 ppg on 52% TS while playing on a much better team with a much better coach imagine Jalen Green playing around that level of talent as opposed to what he’s been surrounded with in Houston there’s levels to this
I can't believe Green's biggest problem is being passive. I don't know, maybe he was seeing too many doubles and defenses packing the side he was on.
Green currently doing what he is doing with the sht situation he's put in, no pg, no coach, no offense system, etc. One can only imagine how much better he will become in an ideal situation.
