Of course it happens. And when it does, it often sets teams back for years. There are “safer” options. And I’m not necessarily advocating for those - Young is very intriguing. But… if his frame can’t handle it…
Or that opportunity could very well happen in 2024. I dont understand the we need a QB so lets draft any old QB crowd regardless of what's happened in relation to QB's size/ ability etc...
Lol…it’s not any old qb. It’s the guy I think is the best qb in this draft. If Caserio/ Ryans/ Slowik like him that’s good enough for me.
Is the best QB in this draft going to have the ability to develop into a top 5 type QB? If not they should pass on the QB position at 1-2. That's not to say that they shouldn't pick a guy like Hooker at 2-33. But hey, you're right, if Ryans/Caserio/Slowik like one of these QB's then it's their jobs that are on the line, not mine.
So? Age doesn't matter, unless you think this guy's extra 2 years at the end of his career are going to be a gamebreaker (Rogers, Brees, Brady). And if you think he's that guy you draft him anyway, and sit him as long as needed.
Right, this was my point. If you're not taking a QB at the top and taking defense instead, he's a fine guy to take a bit later and develop and roll with a vet for a year, or half a year. Then you run the risk of missing out on the blue chip QBs next draft, though. There's no guarantee we'll totally suck again. If I had these answers I'd be making a lot more money.
I’d draft him if we didn’t take one of the top 4. Hopefully closer to the 3rd round though. Hooker, Duggan, Tune? Would be later round guys I would take a flyer on if we didn’t go QB at 2
There's only an opportunity to draft a "top 5" type quarterback once every 5 years, or so. And even then, obviously they don't always turn into a top 5 QB. What you're suggesting is that no quarterback should ever be drafted high, unless they're an Andrew Luck or a Trevor Lawrence-type prospect. And even then, that doesn't always pan out. Seems like teams would put more value on arguably the most important position in sports, no? Weird suggestion. Especially because if there was a quarterback like that, he wouldn't make it to the second pick. That being said, I think a career-long healthy Bryce Young definitely has the tools to be a top 10 quarterback, which I think is a better metric of spending a high pick on them. For a desperate franchise, that should be more than enough.
What are the safer options? Are you saying a different qb like stroud? Or will Anderson and a qb next year? because if it’s the latter, I don’t see how getting young at 2 and him getting hurt sets us back any farther than trading multiple picks to move up and get a qb next year who also may be a bust.
Will Anderson is the safest option at #2 overall and is a total stud. Missing on this pick results in a multi-year setback while we suffer through bad QB play. However, if we add two high quality starters (Edge + WR) with our first round picks and then see continued improvement from Mills (by giving him weapons for the first time in his career) then we increase our win total by 3-4 games over last season. Draft a rookie QB in a mediocre QB class and we probably win 3 games again. Remember, it's very difficult to win consistently when you don't have a pass rush. And most championship teams have a game-disrupter at Edge. We will need to add this piece at some point before we are a contender. Now is a great time.
Nah. I know it’s painful for you to have stroud/bryce as your qb but it’s happening. Brace yourself lmao
