FYI, I think McCormick deserves A starting OF spot based on past year. Depending on the lineup, that spot should be LF or CF. My choice would be Chas in LF and Meyers in CF vs LHP. If RHP is starting then Chas (2/3) and Meyers (1/3) share CF with Yordan, Brantley, and others playing LF.
I may be the high man on McCormick and he should definitely be a starter until someone beats him in the regular season. That said, I don't know if he has hit a slider this spring. If he hasn't, it may have been since August since he has hit a slider. Looking at pitch tracking last week, it looks like he's been taking sliders for balls this spring, but of the pitches tracked as a slider, I didn't see a hit. Hopefully he either learns to hit them or has a good enough eye that he can make pitchers pay enough for throwing sliders out of the zone.
Do we like Meyers against lefties to that degree? I am not familiar with his splits. We know both Alvarez and Brantley don't give a hoot if you're lefty or righty. So I don't see the automatic insertion of Meyers vs lefties as you do. Hopefully Dusty stops being stupid about McCormick's splits and takes advantage of it finally.
If Meyers manages to play 120+ innings I predict he will win a gold glove (And deserve it) I just hope he hits better than Marisnick, Siri, or Straw. If he can manage OPS+ of 95 or better and he is a 4 WAR player and among the best CF in baseball. I think Chas has a higher floor and is more likely to have an All Star worthy season, but Meyers has the higher ceiling and can simply play CF better than 95% of the OF on the planet.
Meyers Career: 630 OPS (88 OPS+)vs RHP, .742 OPS (119 OPS+) vs LH. If you throw away 2022 because he wasn't healthy. 2021: .676 (88) and .899 (140) but small sample size applies. FTR and point of reference: Chas was .645 (84) and .972 (171) last year. I'm thinking the superior lineup vs LHP is both in there but only one or the other should play vs RHP. That's why a healthy Brantley makes this team so good. It is also what makes Dirden and the top LH OF prospects so exciting.
So is the thought now that Lee makes it as backup C and that Diaz is taking the spot that Dirden and Julks were potentially fighting for?
So is the thought now that Lee makes it as backup C and that Diaz is taking the spot that Dirden and Julks were potentially fighting for? Man that 171 and Dusty sitting him so much of the time vs lefties is maddening.
My bad. I meant 1200. As for his arm we will see. He never had a great arm but last year was significantly down from 2021. 2022: 42nd percentile 2101: 60th percentile. Interestingly, Chas also had a drop and is not strong: 2022: 45th percentile 2021: 58th percentile.
The main problem with Meyer's arm last year was being tentative and inaccurate. Chaz at least gets the ball out quickly and gets it where it needs to go.
Photographic evidence I was there, singing in the choir (Singing Men of Texas) at Carnegie Hall. Steve Green hit that ultra high C there.
I enjoy a team that says “It’s the final warm up game? We’re just here to show we are ready? Well then, how does 24-1 feel, MLB? Are you ready now?” Yes, I know it was backups against backups. But as someone who has been told our backups are weak, I found that enjoyable. I’m ****ing hyped. Let’s get this done ‘Stros!
Yep, some have unrealistic expectations for Meyer. I like Meyers and will be happy if he can make it back from injury to be an above avg player.
We're just going to have to live with Dusty (the Scorpion) in the Frog and Scorpion story. He's gonna do what he's born to do.
****ed those fools up for Christ today. 24-1 baby. What a blowout. Doesn't mean much w/ ST, but still always neat to blow the other team out.
