Maybe you’re not, but it seemed that way when we used to joke around. This used to be all about ball and different opinions, but then y’all started making it personal bc I don’t believe in Sengun. There’s nothing wrong with that
Every time from now and until the future when Green gets a 40 point game Newage will get a bit more confused about life.
I mean shoot, my favorite players to watch have been Cuttino Mobley (idk why either) AI, Tracy Mcgrady, Aaron Brooks, James Harden, and now Jalen Green/Sengun in chronological order. So I guess I am a black-player-only fan. With a little vanilla thrown in at the end.
I don't want to make this thread D&D worthy any more than it already is. And I am certainly no PC police. But it's easy to get technical about racism's definition and dismiss a lot of things. Stereotyping is a form of racism. Even though sometimes the stereotype seems positive, it is still harmful. For example, Asians are stereotyped as good at Math and are generally good students in school. Sounds positive. But the flip side of it is that Asians are nerds who aren't good athletes. Blacks are stereotyped as having great athleticism. Sounds good. But the flip side is that they are only good at physical things and not very smart. White players are stereotyped as good shooters. Sounds good. But the flip side is that they aren't very athletic. Any stereotype, no matter how positive it sounds, serves to limit a race to a narrow capacity thereby discriminating them on things outside of that capacity. It's sometimes very subtle.
I really enjoyed the Francis-Mobley backcourt back in the day the most exciting players of all-time for me were prime Penny Hardaway and Orlando T-Mac…it’s a shame T-Mac aged in dog years when he got to Houston I was damn near doing backflips when I heard we’d traded for him
I didn't care about names. Faves were Scola, Yao, Delfino, Battier, Hayes, Papanikolaou in the 2000s. I kinda forgot who I rooted for on other teams. Probably someone like Antetokounmpo. I rembered I rejoiced when the Baron Davis redeem*believe Worriers beat the highly favored Mavs with Dirk. And when Chauncey and Rip took the Malone Lakers out of contention. I did appreciate Mergady, Metta and Francis' game to an extent.
There was nobody smoother...nobody. I felt completely betrayed when he elected to get that knee surgery in the middle of our season, but it's all water under the bridge now, I guess. We got some good memories and a lifetime of injury related Rockets PTSD from the Tmac/Yao era
sure, if there is implied inferiority in something else, that would fit the definition. I.e. i’m saying Asians are superior at math, and implying they are inferior at sports, that’s subtle but racist, nevertheless. saying Sengun is mistreated because he’s white and the coach is black, I don’t see how that is racist.
I'm pretty sure the reason @Verbal Christ started going in heavy on Sengun is because he lacks severe basketball knowledge. To be honest, I'd be concerned about Sengun's future if a KPJ fan praised him. Fortunately, I haven't yet come across a KPJ stan praising him, which makes me even more hopeful about Sengun's future.
Baron Davis repped Oakland well. For me, Baron's GSW was much more likable than Curry's GSW (despite Curry got them more titles and is more mainstream popular). Baron punked Dirk in the GSW-DAL series.
Wilt was up there and you could add a Ewing/D Robinson and others as well who did it on both sides But the eras they played in were more focused on the Center being dominant / enforcers on the low block, since the NBA has always been a league built by Bigs (cliche) until the Jordan era and it became moving more toward guard heavy based even though you still had those last crop of 90's Centers doing their thing, but now it is more so the big wing and combo guard cliche Jokic / Embiid / Towns etc. is what they want from the modern era big man, those who can stretch the floor and still hit the low block and score, i know Jokic is not nowhere near the level of defender of the ones you and I mention, that was never a debate from me Olajuwon played in a era where the 3pt shot was more of a wow/whoa factor when it was taken and made, but where today the era extreme 3pt volume Sengun plays in is more of a oh another typical 3pt shooting contest game, which is why it would benefit him and the team if he just had a respectable 3 point shot, not saying he has to jack up many 3's per game, but to have it in his arsenal, whereas the other Centers of the past like Dream didn't need that in their arsenal at all because they were paid and taught to be in the paint and dabble some midrange here and there Hakeem wouldn't be another gimmick if you add in a 3pt shot with his already dominant post / defense game, it would have made him even more lethal being you had to not only guard him in the paint but now if he wanted to pull you out he would Dirk you from 3 similar to how they say about guards who can attack and finish in the paint and shoot the midrange and 3 all equal combined in one, that is a nightmare player, not a gimmick just because he can do it all from 3 levels, just my 2 cents.
I Am a fan of black only players which can be somewhat confusing depending on which side of the coin (denotative / original vs. connotative / reconstructed) you are viewing it from Etymology / Original meaning
I come here after a rough day, expecting to relax and enjoy some fan comments before tonights game. What do I get? A flood of irrelevant arguments and insults. Pages long no less, none leads to anywhere. Good job everybody, hope y'all can enjoy the game nonetheless. Wish we get to see a great show from everyone on the roster sans Nix. CEEP CALM AND BE A ROCKET, cheers.
Embiid is an example of an old school player who evolved, he can nail the 3 but he is still predominantly a guy who operates on the low block and getting to the line. Hacked by the other team. Peeps loved 3 point shooting when it was the new hot topic, now I heard from several fans that this kind of Offense has become boring to say the least.
When one of our guys hits a three, I think it's exciting. Almost every time. When a player on the opposing team does, not so much. I will get excited if our defensive scheme sucked and allowed an open shot, or if one of our players obviously blew an assignment, leading to a wide open 3 by the other team. Doesn't matter to me who the player is. Different kinds of excitement. Often, excitement better described as being pissed off.
