[Iko] If the Rockets don't get a top 3 pick, they're definitely trading it.

Go watch some tape of the Thompson twins and Cam Whitmore if you want to see some explosive athleticism. Explosive leaping ability, crazy-quick first step. Amen could legitimately be the most athletic player in the NBA if he were in the league right now, with the knock on him being that he can't shoot (but he's at least a good passer). He would go #1 in a weaker draft class just for the tools. Ausar Thompson and Cam Whitmore would probably be in the top 20 or 30 most athletic NBA players, and they do show signs of having some shooting ability.

Reminder: Be wary of inferring "The Rockets wouldn't do Deal X" from "Deal X would be stupid."

Not surprised. This draft isn’t deep at all. Said that previously already. Very underwhelming

Stone's not even that stupid. All the folks talking about him being overrated need to read what actual scouts, coaches and those in the know have been talking about this kid for two yrs plus. Not gonna happen.

You really think he would trade a guy being compared to two past MVP's for a guy whose never made an All Star squad?

    C'mon..

Who is being compared to past MVPs? Are you referring to Scoot? Hell, Nix had better GLeague stats last year at 19yrs old, than Scoot does this year. Mikal is averaging 26ppg at a 50-40-90 clip since being freed by the Suns to become a #1 option I'm Brooklyn.

This draft is about 13 feet 5 inches deep.

Harden + trading that pick = where we don't want to be..."Superteam/Superfriends" route.

No matter where we land in the draft order, I'm only interested in Wemby! He's the only one who picques my curiosity! If we don't land him I say let @Trader_Jorge or @Swapshop get involved!

    Go Rockets!!!

I've seen Whitmore play and he's definitely got a strong NBA body already with great athleticism. He could be an Aaron Gordon or Larry Nance type, a very strong finisher around the hoop. He has potential for more, but I'm not seeing star so far.

I'm not overly enamored with strength and athleticism. It's a great bonus but skill and bball IQ are so much more important, even on defense. Again, I haven't seen Ausar Thompson play so I'll just have to take your word on it regarding his shooting ability. He's shooting 30% from deep on low volume and 67% from the free throw line.

    You're right, it's a bold claim.

Iko's a pretty "team-friendly" beat writer, I mean I guess you have to be these days.

But, one thing that's clear, it's pretty much aligned with what he has reported, which is that the Rockets (and frankly, that probably just means Tilman) consider 23-24 to be the "end of the beginning" of the rebuild cycle and will make sacrifices to get there (including trading this year's pick).

Could also just be "signalling" to Harden, if not about Harden, as well.

Or could just be some guy writing a take so a bunch of middle aged dorks will post about it.

Assuming the Rockets do trade the pick if it falls out of the top 3, then this rebuild really looks like bad.

The worst record in the league for three seasons and you end up with no Green, Smith and Sengun?

You maybe get to pay a 34 year-old James Harden the max until he is 38-39 years old?

This really doesn't sound like much other than mediocrity for the next 5 years if they take that route.
