In its original use, woke was a good thing.

Then it became synonymous with disingenuous vitue signaling, which is, admittedly, sort of how I found myself using it. Since then I've dropped it in favor of just saying disingenuous virtue signaling, because I think that's an important issue on both sides of the spectrum that allows good faith debate amongst people with differing opinions.

Lately, and predictably, the right has highjacked the term to suit their insatiable grievance. They're reeeeeally good at that.

 

Could easily see them twisting empathy into a negative.

Also don’t forget “crisis actor” for victims of school shootings for having the audacity to advocate for gun control.

And snowflake because apparently being unique and special is a weakness. Don’t tell your kids they are special remind them they are the same decaying, organic matter as everyone else, and we are all part of the same compost pile. That will help them become strong and self sufficient.

 

Absolutely. To them Jesus was a capitalist who was perfectly fine with the unjust political system of the day, but who was happy to give out some charity from the goodness of his heart.

My 9yo really lays it on thick when mama's around and he hurts himself. He knows I will be sympathetic but to a 'dad' point- hug, bandaid, go back to playing and rub some dirt in it. That happened this weekend out in the yard (it was a pretty gnarly cut to be fair) and I commented to my wife and our friend that we could use a little bit of peer pressure like your story above, and my wife tells me that it doesn't exist anymore. She's a school librarian and the nurse at her school told her that half of the nurse visits are because 'they're all just p*****s now'.
