Looks like he's sandbaging imo but it's possible the stress of the investigation could be getting to him
Stroud may very well time better than "this guy or that guy", but no one should EVER consider his "athleticism" a plus. He has virtually ZERO burst in these clips. He's got a good arm, and accuracy, but dude's mobility is close to nothing. The Georgia game was definitely a plus for him, but against MINNESOTA, he was getting destroyed by a defense not really known for it's athletes...
Being a fat azz at the most important job interview of your life isn't sandbagging. Carter looks like a Raider to me.
The issue I see is that most of these "runs" he's not even really trying to run. He certainly isn't a great athlete, but he's definitely a decent enough mover to play in the NFL and more athletic than Jared Goff, which is why his most common comp is a more athletic Goff.
He’s not more athletic than Goff. They’re similar movers. Once he breaks the line of scrimmage he doesn’t get faster, routinely ran down from Dlineman and linebackers and doesn’t make anyone miss. He has no burst
That wasn't happening in the Georgia game and they have a faster defense than anyone as we could see by their combine performances over the last 2 years. It's possible that he just wasn't trying to run. His first play at Ohio State was a 50+ yard TD run. I personally don't want Stroud, but I just disagree with your assessment. Goff never had a 50+ yard run or any runs against Georgia level defenders in college.
Stroud had one solid run against Georgia that he made someone miss. The rest were undisciplined rush lanes from defenders and wide open space to run.
I don’t think he is an average athlete for a QB. He isn’t elite but there is nothing athletically that will keep him from being a good NFL QB. What tough competition did he play poorly against? He was bad against Michigan in 2022 but then was very good against Ohio State. In his college career he only had a couple bad games and they were Northwestern and Nebraska and Michigan. I have no idea how good he will ultimately be in the NFL but I don’t see any red flags really. He is very accurate, he throws the deep ball as well as anyone in the draft and he also has touch. Beauty is in the eye of beholder but there are very few real warts.
I don’t remember where I saw this, but several months ago I remember reading a draft source/report about there being serious concerns regarding Carter’s character issues. This was back in like November/December timeframe. So all these issues seem to be lining up with that. Will be fascinating to see how far he falls.
