What you're describing isn't reparations for slavery. What you're describing is reparations for post-slavery discrimination.
Yes. And? In reality the redlining discrimination well after slavery is probably the biggest contributor to the modern wealth gap between Black and white families.
@rocketsjudoka Slavery wasn’t an issue in California especially San Francisco They should give money to the Chinese railroad workers Oh wait that would look bad cause those descendants are pretty rich now
Does Draymond get an extra $5 million? He’s Black in San Francisco On top of that he won some nba championships @AroundTheWorld
At a minimum, yes. There might be interest involved etc. I believe that would be a good starting place. It is impossible to calculate the value that people who had an equal opportunity might have been able to make. We could also look at the generational wealth increases since then as well as the most recent generational lack of increase to consider that as well.
Did Rome make a guarantee to people that were emancipated and fail to follow through? Did they set out to prevent people that were once enslaved from attaining wealth?
So, to the two extreme fringe leftists here who think this should happen...I have questions. what should this be based on, being black or being a direct descendant of slaves? if the latter, how are you supposed to prove this who should pay for this, "the government" (=all taxpayers) or should it only be paid by whites or only by "direct descendants of slave owners" what about people who immigrated to the US after slavery was abolished, should they pay what if you are a direct descendant of Asian forced laborers in the US, should you get more or less money compared to direct descendants of African slaves? where is your slot in the hierarchy of victimhood? what if you are a direct descendant of slaves and trans, should you get more than 40 acres and a mule? how about 80 acres and two gay mules? what if you are part "direct descendant of slaves" and part "direct descendant of slave owners", do you pay and get paid? what if you identify as direct descendant of slaves? maybe some studies will come out that the suicide rates of people who identify as direct descendants of slaves go up if they are misraced as not being direct descendants of slaves would you personally be willing to pay to make this happen, even if it bankrupts you/your family/the government? I might have more questions later. Thanks in advance, lunatic friends.
Nothing is going to be perfect or make up for all of the lost opportunity. All people should pay, since the idea is that government is of the people and the original agreement was made by the government. DNA tests could prove the ancestry. If they can't prove it, they don't receive the reparations. Since all Americans pay taxes the direct descendants who are also descendants of slave owners are already paying. The government is already in debt. Perhaps a payment schedule could help if the cost is crippling. Why is the government living up to its obligations extremist or fringe? Why isn't that mainstream?
I mean lol I knew @FranchiseBlade is part of the wacky leftist Cali teachers union bubble, but I didn't know just how out there these folks are. No wonder SF is where it is.
Where are reparations for the Latinos (not latinX)? White gringos have no guilt for la raza? Que pasa? @Salvy @basso
@FranchiseBlade - how "pure" must someone's race be proven to be via DNA test to be eligible? Thanks in advance. lol and these people don't even realize how racist they are this is much closer to 1930s Nazi ideology than not allowing some books in public school libraries
I mean, I posted this for a laugh, given how absurd it is. I thought this would be something nobody in their right mind would support, even the leftists here. Given the crowd here, I should have known better.
1930s Nazi ideology was about maintaining current hierarchical structures of their times and the theory that Jews and migrants like the Romani are conspiring to upend that traditional social structure of the nation. So I really don't know how the Nazi comparison comes to play.
1930s Nazi ideology was about maintaining current hierarchical structures and the theory that Jews and migrants like the Romani are conspiring to upend that German Aryan traditional social structure. So I really don't know how the Nazi comparison comes to play. So people who want this current hierarchy to continue are the ones more closer to Nazi ideology.
Creating a hierarchy of rights against the government (and thereby everyone else) based on race is...problematic.
