This is a very strange mix. It looks like the algorithm is having difficulty classifying Gordon's sinker so it must have a lot of ride/fade

    Quick transaction roundup:

    Retired

2-21: LHP Geremy Guerrero - undrafted free agent, 2022 (Indiana State); never appeared in a game in the Astros org
3-4: RHP Elvin Villega - international free agent, 2021 (Dominican Republic); made two appearances (2 IP) for the DSL Blue team in 2022

    IFA signings

2-20: OF Luis Quesada - 18-year-old from Cuba
2-20: RHP Cristian de la Cruz - 20-year-old from the DR
3-2: RHP Antony Aparicio - 20-year-old from Panama

    Undrafted free agent signings

3-8: C Josh Ferro, Purchase College (D3 school, part of the SUNY [State University of New York] system) - it doesn't look like he played pro baseball in 2022.

I appreciated him/Ausmus and the pitchers spot. The perfect time for a bathroom break.

Tough that it didn't pan out for him. I wish him well

i get tired of tuning into the Astros broadcast and getting non-stop encouragement to gamble your life away, particularly when they market it as an investment.

I was just aggravated when I tuned in to a sports channel to listen to the game.

So anyway... a couple of releases popped up on MILB transactions.

RHP Alex Palmer was a 20th-round pick in 2019 out of Stephen F. Austin. While his numbers were excellent... they all came in the FCL, save for one appearance with Fayetteville to end the 2021 season. Probably due to injury, Palmer only made three appearances (one start, 6 IP total) in 2022, allowing one hit, walking one, and striking out 14.

RHP Jose Alberto Rivera looked like he was poised to climb into the ranks of the Astros' top prospects after a nice 2019 season with Quad Cities in which he struck out 95 in 75.2 IP. Then the pandemic happened, and then he got hurt. The Astros briefly lost him when the Angels picked him in the 2021 Rule 5 draft, but he was returned in Spring Training and was ineffective in 5 appearances (3 starts) for Asheville before getting shut down with an injury. Rivera did not pitch in 2022.

Is it a multi billion corporation? I figured they’d be owned by a local yokel (rich but not filthy) and they just affiliate with the Astros who have no ownership interest in them.

    Wiki-
On January 5, 2010 it was reported by the Asheville Citizen-Times that Palace Sports and Entertainment have sold the Asheville Tourists to former U.S. Senator and current Governor of Ohio Mike DeWine and his family. It was reported that Brian DeWine, son of Mike, would be the team president.[7] The team is owned by DeWine Seeds-Silver Dollar Baseball. Governor DeWine has a 32% stake in the team but does not play a role in management.[8] In 2020 the team received a $189,500 Paycheck Protection Program loan during the COVID-19 pandemic.[8]

So, a family business. They apparently borrowed to pay their employees during the lost covid season, good for them. It is nice to know the tourists are in good, responsible hands.

I stand corrected. Though not thrilled to see the Governor having a stake in a business that gets taxpayer funds, but that's American politics for you.
