Dammit! I had my patio umbrella up at the time. Luckily, we are a far way from Florida such that the wind damage was minimal.
I stand by that. My definition of a solid spring is one where you perform at expected or required levels. No more no less. Meyers needed(needs?) to reduce his Ks and show his arm is back to pre injury level. The information I have says he has done that though I have so little I may be wrong.

Yordan has time to be ready. The question is will Brantkey need an IL stint? If so I would like to see Diaz get more at bats in the DH which probably means he and Lee both making the team and one sent down when he's activated.
I do not see Meyers and Dirden compeating for the same spot. Meyers is a CF/4th OF, Dirden is a Corner OF only.
There are only 13 position spots. 2 must be catchers. 4 must be starting infielders. Chas, Tucker, and Yordan and Brantley ( if healthy) are locks. Dubon is out of options and already paid an arbitration salary so is a lock for all intent and purposes. Hensley needs to be on the roster so there is a backup 1B as well as generally better utility and PH option. Even if this is Diaz or Matijevic, neither Meyers nor Dirden fit this spot. That leaves 1 spot. So by definition if they are competing it is for the same spot.
Very helpful breakdown. I think with the fact Jake is already on the 40 man and Dirden isn't, transaction/roster wise Jake gets the nod regardless. Dirden is showcasing though to be the first OF up if Yordan or Brantley are not active on Opening Day, which would possibly require DFA Madris or even Bannon from the 40 man. So in essence, I don't see Dirden and Meyers competing right now for a roster spot, but more so Dirden competing with Madris for who belongs on the 40 man. Dirden and Meyers could be competing for playing time later if they are both on the active roster at some point.
Bretty Baty on the Mets has been impressive on all their games against the Astros. Mets may have their own Jeremy Pena.
I'll buy that. But unless there is some more serious issue we have not been told, both Yordan and Uncle Mike will be on the active roster by Mid April at the latest. I don't see anyone added to the 40 man unless the DFA'd player has just been decided to be not an option for even a handful of plate appearances at the bottom of the bench at the least important part of the season.
It's absolutely mind-blowing that Dusty would simply plug him into the line up in the exact spot of the guy he was subbing for. Dubon in the 2 hole was a sight to behold.
I know some think it is perfectly defendable that the best CF on the active roster can go for 2+month stretch of only getting 12% of the PAs in CF. Of the 70 PAs CFs made against LHPs after Brantley's injury and September, the month when Dusty finally started playing Chas more in CF, Chas got 7 of them. Unless Brown can convince Dusty not to play Dubon in CF, Dubon on the roster is likely a detriment to the team despite likely being a decent backup middle IF.
This. Save Dusty from himself and trade Dubon. Hensley sucks at SS, but Dubon ain’t great either. Myers and Chas will make the opening roster. I would have a very quick trigger on Myers. Dirden gives you a very good option against righties, you can play Tucker in CF against right handers. Against Righties: Altuve 2b Pena SS Alvararez LF Bregman 3b Tucker CF Abreu 1b Brantley DH Dirden RF Catcher
If Dirden is a corner outfielder only, somebody better tell the Astros. He played more games in CF in Corpus last year than he did in RF or LF. He played a third of the games he was in Sugarland in CF and they keep putting him in Centerfield during spring training where he has looked quite capable.
Dubon has a career 5 defensive run saved per season better than average. Dubon is a well above average defensive shortstop.
So So your idea is to acknowledge that Hensley sucks at SS, but then assume the starting SS is also the backup SS? Dubon is extremely valuable as the backup SS and/or the backup 3B. There is no other option, which is why the debate on other options is so amusing.
