Meanwhile in west virginia, Republicans defend the right of men to marry children.

    Republicans, Unable to Define "Woke"

Young Republicans Are Begging Party Elders To Stop Saying ‘Woke’

To the young Republicans, the vernacular feels a bit cringe. “We don’t really use ‘woke’ as our term,” says Evan Masse, a student at the Community College of Rhode Island. Chris Johnson, the managing director of
Young Conservatives for Carbon Dividends, likened its use to how an out-of-touch uncle might search for the words to describe a nephew at the Thanksgiving table.

“I think a lot of older folks use it if they don’t really know what they’re referring to,” he says. “It’s a catchall colloquialism.”

Some young conservatives worry that going so hard on “woke” — a term now used almost entirely derogatorily by Republican detractors — will turn off upcoming generations of voters already disinclined to support the GOP.

Why be President for possibly 8 years when you can wield a ton of power and influence for 30? Mitch could have never been President, but a powerful Senator can have a ton of impact on a country for a longer period of time.

Want to see what is driving inflation now? Corporate greed. They even say it themselves.
    https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/08/economy/food-prices-inflation/index.html

During its fourth-quarter earnings call, Coca-Cola was asked about reports of retailer pushback on pricing. “We’ve earned the right to price with the consumers,” said CEO James Quincey. If it can demonstrate that people will pay more for Coke, it can convince retailers that higher prices will be good for them, too, Quincey said. Coca-Cola said it plans continue to raise prices globally, noting that input costs are still higher than usual.

When asked during a conference in February how Conagra was able to raise prices without losing sales by volume, CEO Sean Connolly said “pricing was just too low in frozen pre-pandemic,” adding, “what we’ve been able to illustrate for the retailer is that consumers will welcome a $4.50 unit,” because at that price, a frozen meal is still a good value.

I have wondered this as well.

I don't think that she was a very good candidate as President because she really reached on a lot of stuff and deeply wanted to be liked, and that can be a turnoff.

I think the issue now is that she doesn't really have a strong group of support in the democratic party. She isn't "woke" or super progressive like a Bernie Sanders or an AOC. She doesn't really have a strong lock on the old or young vote.

Yep, but I'm not sure you can pin that on Biden. People don't understand or forget about simple supply/demand driving worker pay.

Of course, if corporations in a certain sector are colluding to keep wages down, that's an entirely different matter.

I think a lot of it is that she isn't charismatic at all as a campaigner or speech-giver. She comes across as stiff. She was good in Senate committee hearings when she got to show off her prosecutorial skills, but that doesn't happen as VP.

pima facie evidence of the good job that the Biden admin has been doing since taking office.

you should let Charlie Biello know that the biggest drivers of this inflationary run have been rent, medical services, gasoline, insurance, etc; over the past 23 months, these cost variables have increased close to 20%

    Agreed.

If Trump or DeSantis did this, we would be in an uproar.

This isn't how we do things in the USA, no single President is larger than the office or the government.

We saw Trump want to put on the COVID drafts that he was responsible for it....... now we have Biden wanting his name on tax payor funder things.

We have been very lucky that in the past, when Presidents had lots of power (Washington/Lincoln/Roosevelt), that they were either somewhat humble or were humbled.

I'm concerned about this idea now that the President can basically have their own brand.

Thank you for once as a right wing poster here actually posting a important issue.

Now what is your favorite GOP candidate going to do about it?

There needs to be some context here as well.

This isn't a situation like Catlyn Jenner when she was named "Woman of the Year", which was incredibly insulting to biological women.

There were a total of 11 awards handed out - 10 of them were to biological women and one was to a transwomen.

I am sure there are some biological women that will complain about this, but I think that the majority have no issue with it.

It's a bit revisionist history to think that past Presidents and politicians in general didn't deliberately want stuff named after them.

Let's see just off the top of my head.

    Hoover Dam
    LBJ Wildflower Center
    Teddy Bear
Theodore Roosevelt National Wildlife Refuge Complex
    Ronald Reagan Highway
All the college universities with influential politicians, not just Presidents named after them.
All the cities with influential politicians, not just Presidents named after them. Take Houston and Austin for example. I wonder where the **** people got the idea to name those cities that?

I think the risk that comes with attaching your name to something is the risk that it fails some decades later. If a bridge named after you is responsible for a collapse that kills people because it was built through cost cutting measures and didn't want to invest in extra safety standards and your Presidency mirrors similarly, that's just an example of the legacy you'll be remembered by. So if you build something and you really care about how you'll be remembered, you better make sure what you want your name attached to is going to stand the test of time.

Just thought I should point out (since it's not that far from my house) that the "LBJ Wildflower Center" is actually named after Lyndon Johnson's dear wife, widely known (especially here in Central Texas) as Lady Bird Johnson. Same initials, but not the late President. Lady Bird made a very real impact on the City of Austin in numerous ways. In gratitude, the name of the lake that runs through the center of Austin was changed from Town Lake to Lady Bird Lake. It's been years now, but I'm still having a hard time getting used to that name change. ;-)

Yes. This is a trans-woman who had achieved a high office in foreign country with significant headwinds.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alba_Rueda

Granted I think a lot of her positions and policy prescriptions are wrong or misguided, but it's perfectly reasonable to recognize this person's accomplishments.

There's absolutely no need to create a separate category for trans people outside of the realm of sports where sexual dimorphism affects outcomes ... and people who do nothing but go around behind trans folk shouting "BUT THATS A MAN/WOMAN" are just out-and-out assholes who are deeply unhappy and need to fix themselves first.

She polls 90% with black women. Wherever she goes she always has huge audiences of black women. She's seems nice

This has to be some joke right? We would be a uproar if trump passed a trillion dollar infrastructure bill? You okay?

Pass popular bills and do whatever the hell you want. The hard thing is PASS THE BILL. It seems like everyone forgetting the largest component. Passing legislation is extremely difficult. Period

It also hasn't been done because NOBODY has prioritized infrastructure either. Obama and Clinton both made health care their core pillar of legislation early on. Biden focused on infrastructure and got it done.

It's crazy seeing folks talk about how the idea has been in DC for decades thus biden doesn't deserve credit. Nobody gives a **** about ideas in DC.

Deliver and feel free to celebrate.
