Innocent people plead guilty all the time, the system incentivzes it. All the state need do is put them in pretrial incarceration for years, throw in some solitary confinement, threaten a much longer sentence if it gets to trial, add in some onerous legal fees and defense attorney who is buddy buddy with the state, and it's quite easy to get a guilty plea. here's how they treated a guy with zero criminal history and who committed zero violence that day:
