The expectations game with Jalen on here has been ridiculous, to some he’s either the next Kobe or bust.
Seriously. Right now he's looking like a Booker level trajectory. How is that disappointing to people especially given the context of the team and coaching staff?
Such a high variance with what Green will be. He has to level up multiple notches defensively. I dont think offense is going to be a problem. His passing free throw rate and proclivity in hitting last minute or expiring clock attempts developing tells me a lot there. Im still confident in him but am marginally dissatisfied with him this year. I think by this time next year we will have a sense where he is headed.
Sometimes I see him getting to the rim so fast, like it was just easy. Guy go ahead and do that, make the world look like it's in slow motion. Go like 7/12 from 2, put in the free throws and hit a couple 3s. 30 points on efficiency like it was easy to do.
Agreed. We still can't take Green's measure (or anyone's really) without a coaching change or playing alongside more veterans. I expect that to change this offseason.
And I think looking at just PPG is misleading. It's easier to score now than it used to be - 20+ ppg is far more common. It would probably be better to look at guys who are in X percentile for ppg and compare that. This would account for rule/style changes that affected any particular season.
He needs a better coach and a quality veteran guard to show him the right way to play the game and hold him accountable. He’s developing some bad habits. This year is a big waste for his development.
Kids don't know you can waste a season (or your career) so easily. Even that is an important lesson for Jalen. Sometimes getting your ass whooped is the best way to humble you and make you work harder. It all depends on how he'll react to it.
I agree thar the difference between his ceiling and floor is the highest amongst the top 3 lottery picks.
Yep. Smith will be a positive 3 and D at worst. 15/8 34% 3 ball with above average D is his floor. Sengun is gonna be what he is now. He may get to average on D or to 35% 3 ball I guess. Both those guys will end up more efficient veteran versions of themselves. Jalen…. Who knows?
My problem with the use of simple scoring average to determine anything is that: He's doing it on the worst team in the league that can't win more than a game 2 games a month. He's doing it on terrible efficiency. .508 EFG% while league average is .544 this season - the highest in the history of the league and the last 9 years account for the top 9 seasons in this aspect - it's easier than ever to be efficient.. His shooting is down across the spectrum - FG%, 3pt FG% & FT% have declined from last season. Yep, he's scoring 21.7ppg on the leagues worst team ..... yep that's more points than last year on more shots with less efficiency. Sounds great .... he's only 19 has turned into he's only 21 now. And we didn't mention defense. He still has potential to be that #1 scoring option who is efficient .... but he's not looking like that right now.
yes, I agree. For the draft class as a whole: High variance: J.Green, Sengun, Giddy Solid, but lower ceiling: Mobley, Wagner, Barnes… Cade is somewhere in the middle.
There will be a Chapter about his contract extensions and him potentially wanting out due to not enough postseason success.
Maybe I did not about Franz Wagner before but he is exceeding any expectations above and beyond. That's pretty high ceiling and high floor. Not his scoring but his assist and rebounding could soar in the future.
Sophomore slump. Shine of being a new rookie is off, but he doesn't yet have the experience of a veteran. If he doesn't show substantial improvement next year (especially if he has better players around him like Harden or at least some veteran roleplayers) I will be surprised. I don't know yet if he will become an all-star caliber scorer or how much his currently-lacking defense will improve as he gains experience, and neither does anyone else. He's still a blue chip prospect, but also still not a proven star. Curse of being a second-year player who hasn't put it all together yet.
