Giving an F isn't really bad, you can only improve. Silas has done nothing but an F, would give Stone an Incomplete but I don't like his plan.
You draft it or you trade for established star or sign multiple to form your superfriends, but usually involving 1 you drafted. Celtics: drafted Russell/Cousey etc. Drsfted Hondo/Cowens. Drafted Bird/McHale. Drafted pierce/put together super friends. Drafted tatum/brown/smart/Williams potential champ Lakers: bought all their championships via trades/sign. Who knows how it goes for magic or Kobe(draft demands and threats-should have been a hornet) but it didn't go well for west and Baylor until wilt. Lkkewise Kareem then Shaq then pau then AD. Lakers buy their trophies. **** the lakers. Bulls: drafted Michael and scottie(draft trade). Drafted Drose and maybe could have got 1 if not for injuries. Spurs: drafted robsinon, Duncan, tp, manu, kawhi Pistons: drafted Isiah, dumars Rodman. 04 Pistons the one anomaly all put together from other teams. Rockets: drafted Hakeem. Heat: drafted dwade. Trade for Shaq. Superfriend team up. All for the drafted player. Mavs. Drafted dirk. Cavs: drafted bron Bucks. Drafted giannis and Middleton Raptor: trade. Phony Champs due to injuries to: Warriors: drafted big 3 You just need an all time good draft or 2. Or hope the 1 is enough to bring others to join him. Wemby changes everything for whoever gets him.
Pretty much on point, just wanted to add the Lakers drafted Worthy which was crazy being they were strong contenders with Magic/Kareem duo etc Plus the Cavs drafted Irving who was a core piece when their prodigal son decided to return home after Heat stint Best way to form a dynasty is basically with a big 3 and legit bench which has been the case since basically the 60's era, in the more modern era outside of the Bulls/Warriors 8yr run teams usually only have a 4-5 year window unless the GM is a shrewd operator on retooling the roster and a owner willing to spend big consistently then you could prolong it like those other two squads
The reality is: most teams don't. And there are a lot of reasons for that: - players decide where they want to play and who they want to play with. Smaller market teams have a lot more difficulties to attract star players. - the draft is a lottery - and I don't mean the actual draft lottery. You get Luka at 3 or Giannis at 14 because there is a lot of uncertainties. - injuries - bad fits between players, player-coach etc. The question is, what can teams do, to maximize the potential to win at least one championship. Different things could work - just look at the Raptors, the Bucks or the Warriors. Building a good culture and then trading for a rental on a star can work - more often than not it will set you back a couple of years. Lucking out on a generational talent in the middle of the draft and have him remain loyal to you can work, but there also aren't that many good examples of that. Or drafting several good to great players early and late in the draft and being in a city, that other players want to play for is probably the best "recipe", but again, there is a lot of luck involved. Houston is not a destination, star players want to play for - but its also not a location they absolutely don't want to play for. So both, collecting assets and trading for a disgruntled star (even if it's just a rental), or playing the draft lottery are probably the best routes. We tried the first thing with Morey and Harden (and it almost worked, in part because we got incredibly lucky with Harden) and we are trying the second route right now (and so far the jury is still out, but it's not looking great).
The keys to a championship are really simple. Play offense and defense and clap your hands. There's only one other thing that works better than that. Have the heart of a champion. . . and get underestimated.
sigh… It’s fun to spend time deluding in fantasy-land, but I’d be more interested in a thread/poll on “Best Way To Build a Team That is Not A Complete and Total Disaster"
After finding dragon eggs.... make an omelette??? Inquiring minds want to know... Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
This is correct and the only answer that matters. everyone else trying to single out one particular thing is a waste of time because everything else is absolutely factored in
If none of the players from either draft turn into a top 30 player of all time, then it wouldn't have mattered who the Rockets have drafted. To soon to say if that will definitely be the case or not. But odds are slightly starting to look like no (like 55%/45%).
To me this may be the problem. If it was true that all that really mattered was top 5 talent, Lebron wouldn't have needed to go to Miami for a rings, and KD wouldn't have needed to go to GS. Also, is Tilman wrong to allow their franchise to be the among the worst in the league 3 years in a row with little signs of improvement, if Stone has him convinced it is their best chance of getting a top 5 talent and building a dynasty? Getting a top 5 talent is just the beginning. The surrounding players and coaches have to be there before or soon after. If you have KD, but let Westbrook dominate the ball constantly, it might prevent a championship even with half a dozen other good lottery picks. If you get Lebron but can't get a running mate for him, he might leave to team up with some other guys. Jokic is pretty good, and they got a nice supporting cast, but not getting dynasty vibes from the nuggets, or even championship.
