The disenfranchisement of DC voters is interesting. If it was an all white or at least a conservative city, the Repubs would immediately vote to make it a state to pick up two senators. If the Dems had any balls and actually wanted the power to enact what their messaging in elections-- in opposition to their biggest donors as well as their closeted Republicans like Manchin and Sinema, they would make it a state to pick up two more senators.

There is absolutely no reason that the areas outside of government buildings should not just revert back to Maryland, aka retrocession (just like the other part of the city reverted back to Virgina in 1846). The whole point of having a seat of the federal government that wasn't in a state was to not give an advantage to any state by having the federal government located there. Making DC a state would not only defeat that purpose, it would be worse than just having a city in a state be the national capital, that whole state would be the national capital.

You can't pass DC Statehood in a reconciliation bill and its even questionable whether you can do it by a simple legislation versus a constitutional amendment. the funny thing that bernie bros can't accept is bernie sanders was the chair of the committee responsible for drafting reconciliation bills last year. When bernie approached manchin to negotiate manchin response to CNN was, "bernie can go to hell I'm not a socialist and I can't explain his policies back home" LOL. Yet the bernie bros wonder how come dems weren't magically able to pass everything with a 50/50 Senate. They passed more legislation than any congress in modern era and their leader wasn't responsible for a single thing. Repubs believe in a little democracy at best. They are perfectly comfortable with having N and S Dakota being two states with a population 4 Senators. Together these two states have a population about the size of Inner Loop Houston. They were created so that Slavery would be harder to eliminate. These 4 Senators help control the undemocratic S Ct in which 5 folks can overturn laws passed by the democratically elected president, House and Senate. Hey you could add on the 4 Senators from Vermont and Wyoming and then you would have 8 senators for a population about the size of Houston. Please explain why folks in big cities like Houston deserve to have so little power bylaw compared to folks in small often rural states..
The filibuster is another favorite undemocratic tactic, which I assume you approve of. Maybe the Repubs can change their name to the UnDemocratic Party. Talk is cheap and anyone can do it. Biden proposed nixing the filibuster and they held numerous votes on getting rid of it. They were always 2 votes short. To claim democrats aren't trying hard enough or some bullshit is so damn disingenuous. Getting **** done and passing laws is difficult
