The "Party" is going to pull a Kennedy on Trump. It worked for Johnson. The GOP will not survive in its current state. It will not survive as long as Trump is the leader. Once respected people in the GOP are now considered RINOs by the base. Those people haven't changed. Trump changed the base or at least made it okay to come out of their vile human closet. Newt Gingrich is now reaping what he sowed. Fox News is walking a fine line between just being a shill for the right and becoming Newsmax/OANN, the normal GOP who rants about fiscal responsibility (their actions showed otherwise) is dying. They did this to themselves.

DeSantis will still probably win in 28 against Harris. Whatever issues the GOP has with trump the democrats will also have with Harris electability. I think she's a good VP but she has no chance of winning a national.

I just hope we get to flip a few Supreme court seats before 2028. Hopefully Thomas can fall off a cliff. @AroundTheWorld I've predicted this DeSantis stuff back in November when everyone was having an orgasm over him.

DeSantis sits out in 24 and the minute Trump loses in 24 DeSantis comes out and demands a change in the party and takes over. DeSantis would literally take control of the party if he plays his card right.

I don’t think so. Desantis is the choice for the donor class. I bet they work behind the scenes to prevent others from joining the field, and to get Haley out early, setting up a 1 V 1 against Trump. All desantis has to say is Trump isn’t electable. During debates, he can just say Trump lost to Biden once and killed the republicans in mid terms. He doesn’t even have to debate policy. Next to trump, desantis can look like a sane person, not the damaged human being that he is.

If nobody else joins the field, we know the donor class has fixed things.

@astros123 I’d like your take on this. Currently I think this is the most likely scenario.

The problem is most of the GOP base doesn't want sane. A lot of them want someone far right that will force their Christian beliefs on the rest of the country no matter what it takes. Desantis is that but Trump is more of that to them.

I think there is a chance Desantis runs, he might feel like (or be made to feel) that his time is now. I'm not sure how relevant he'd be in 2028, it's so far enough away that anything can happen. It's like Bernie's best chance at winning was 2016, now his time is well past, sometimes that one cycle is their best shot. It could be this way for Desantis, a political star can fall over night. At one point Cruz and Jeb seemed like future GOP presidents and now that's extremely hard to imagine as the political landscape changes every cycle.

But I just don't see how Desantis could beat Trump in a primary. GOP base wants someone strong, the more Desantis tries to play the role of gentleman as Trump flings poo his way the less chance he has of winning that primary.

oh I’m sure desantis would give them plenty of grievance jd identity politics. I just saying next to Trump, he will look sane. Yes, the trumper faithful are morons who will follow him no matter what, but I don’t know if they are enough to win a 1v1 primary. There is a solid chunk of the Republican Party that wants to just win, and trump can’t win. The fact that trump is not viable in a general election will be blasted over and over again in ads, all over fox, etc. it’s just a matter of how many republicans choose on that basis.

He doesn't, the people around him do and he's happy to appeal to this people and give them what they want. I mean, he was leading the charge to get Roe v Wade destroyed and he did just that.

Trump brings the country closer to theocracy all the same.

You are right, the corpo bloc of the party are going to put up a fight through ads and will have Fox News behind them but...I fear Trump will just say "Corporate Media is trying to stop me" and bang that drum and those people will then turn on Fox until Fox gets back on Trump's side. I think we all underestimate how much Trumpism has taken over that party. It's their fault though, they courted it and had multiple chances to remove that cancer.

I want trump to win the nomination. He can’t win a general election. Desantis might.

It's safe to say in this political environment and the last two elections as proof, anyone can win an election.
Trump and Biden proved both parties are unhinged. Both are a complete embarrassment.

Democrats delivered on historic legislation that will shape America for decades to come these past few years. You can call them whatever you want but the law is the law.

Chips act alone will be remembered by historians as what saved American advanced chips manufacturing ability.

“Both” remains a favorite word of republicans, and is frequently used for false equivalencies.

Trump only cared about making speeches, cared nothing about governing and legislation, and lied compulsively. His administration was a circus and he appointed and discarded cabinet members like people change underwear.

Biden cares nothing about making speeches, cares only about governing and legislation, and doesn’t lie. Biden’s administration works.

DeSantis seems to favor restrictions on some constitutional amendments but not others.
