This was lost in all the news about the Queen but yesterday in a 60's Minutes interview Biden did say the US would defend Taiwan. He repeated it again when Scott Pelley asked a followup.

 

In reality that's just posturing. There is no way the US would have a direct military engagement with China.

 

I agree with this. The US has to show strength against China. They have to show they aren't afraid of China. It's an important message to deliver to both China and to Americans.

I don't think China will invade Taiwan anytime soon. It's not in their MO - they are extremely cautious and the fact is, they aren't in any kind of time pressure. They position increases with time, not decreases. The stronger they become on the world stage, they more leverage they get. Time is on their side.

So why invade and disrupt the world (and themselves economically) for a small island? Yes that small island is a big deal for them, but at the end of the day, it's just an island they can take anytime they want.

 

US might push China into military action, many in Washington believes China is not ready, so pushing China will result in premature military action which will severely weaken China. Remember Ukraine? It does not matter how we feel, it is how the Russians feel and in this case how China feels.

Yes the Biden interview is 25 minutes but there’s a lot in there to listen to that effects the country. Including controversial statements such as the the pandemic is over. This is the President of the US and not some random YouTube influencer.

Distance is the biggest factor against Taiwan's defense and makes reunification a seeming reality.

 

Why don't you post why he's upset. You have an agenda. Biden got us troops and fighter jets in Northern islands exactly where we need to be to defend taiwan. This will help resupply the island incase of a invasion. This was vital because it Hedges our positions from the north.

China can cry all they want but they're getting punked. Australia japan Korea are all doubling down

 

I can tell you this, China is watching the Ukraine conflict closely as a model for an invasion into Taiwan, and they can not like what they are seeing. Taiw will be much harder to invade than Ukraine, and Russia is really struggling.

It's incredibly hard to invade a country with a motivated defense and well trained troops with the right equipment.

This is why the US sending weapons to Ukraine was so vital. US isn't just working to stop Russia invading Ukraine, this is a marker to every country thinking about invading another country.

If the US did nothing, the Republicans would be screaming and crying how weak Biden was for doing nothing - in fact that was the narrative. Then when the Ukraine defense became successful, the narrative changed to being "anti-war"

No, stop you're not "anti-war" you are "anti-US" because people will change their stance on important issues merely to oppose Biden. That's so sad.
