He's a pf Silas is misusing him really. Has fast feet, is a good 3pt shooter, good defender so why use a 6'7 kid at 5? If his 3pt percentage isn't a fluke then he'll do reasonably well under a competent head coach.

No he's not quick enough at the 4 neither guarding them nor being guarded by them. At the 5 he is pulling out the other team's shotblocker and that's how you make his 3pt shot a benefit for the entire offense. At the 4 you don't really get that benefit. The guy is 6'8, strong and with a 7'2 wingspan. He's a slightly undersized C in this NBA but can totally get away with it. He's had no issues playing C. It's never a size issue.

It's literally just the first time he has ever had to learn to anchor a real defense. An NBA defense. It typically takes college big men 2-3 years in the NBA to learn that skill and he doesn't even have as much NBA preparation as those guys. He is still one of the youngest players on the roster. They just need to give him reps and he needs to get in better shape and continue to work on his 3pt shot.

Silas doesn't seem to trust him to give him all the backup C minutes. Bringing in Fernando and playing Boban, I still don't understand what the point was. Those guys are not teaching anyone to anchor a defense and that's what both our C's are working on. Just give them minutes especially end of the season.

Boban playing more than Garuba and Garuba not shooting more 3s are two instances of crazyland of Silas.

It just shows size matters. And Williams is a baby big. A star big would’ve been even more impactful.

Garuba evolving into PJ Tucker on offense was not what I ever expected to happen.

Right? This dude could barely make a layup last season...ok well he still kinda does, but at least he can shoot 3's now.

It feels like every pick the Rockets have made has been OK to great, except for Jabari lol

I wouldn't object to letting Darius the DOG have his Days and then let Jabari Smith Jr. experience the RG Valley.

Perhaps we should give Jabari a second year like we gave Garuba? I can't tell if you even caught the irony between "Garuba couldn't make a layup last year" and "Jabari was the only bad pick" in his rookie season. Some of yall never learn to be patient with these kids.

Many rookies play like crap and go on to become productive players, but people are so quick to judge and have no patience for development. Our team is no exception. One of the worst rookies I've ever seen was Marcus Morris and he's still in the league and is a 38% career shooter from deep. Capela was terrible too.

PJ Tucker / Luc Moute is the right comp, Garuba should lose weight, focus on defending PFs, and shooting volume from the corners. He's fine for short stretches, or against small ball bigs at the 5 spot, but it shouldn't be his full-time position.

They're mostly trying to feel smart by calling someone a bust first like that makes them an analyst or something. Kinda sad.

Yes but a 6'8 PJ Tucker with a bigger wingspan is a championship calibre role player. Worth developing.

And Garuba should be a great (and renewed) lesson why you shouldn't pass judgement on players that young. You never judge a rookie based on their rookie season, ever. Even if you turn out right in the end, it was still dumb judgement.

I agree. It looks like he gained back all the weight he lost.
