Totally disagree. Not because Memphis is lacking in talent. They are a tough opponent. From even before the game started, my thinking was I hope we never play these a**holes again. Did not like the way they blocked our players from getting to center court before the start of the game. Total lack of class. When we beat them the first time at home, CKS took the foot off the gas towards the end of the game. They scored a couple of non-contested meaningless buckets at the end of the game to tarnish our win. Total lack of class on their coach's part. Loved the way Shead stuck a dagger in their heart to end the game. You could not draw up a more perfect way to end our regular season. They are a classless team, led by a classless coach. Hope Sampson thinks long and hard before adding them to our OOC schedule going forward.
Saw a tweet saying that the PA announcer at the game today had to tell the fans to stop throwing crap on the floor. So on brand.
+1 My experience with Memphis athletics is that they are pretty classless thugs in both football and basketball. I love sticking it to them but only because they deserve their losses. As entertaining as the games sometimes are, I could do without ever playing them again in any sport.
I don't think we have seen this Cougar's team's best game. They play hard, but they struggle at times. All humans do. Some of the UH teams through the years have appeared more consistent, more dominant, even more skilled. But this team has something special. They are street fighters. They can take a punch. They fight back, and they never quit swinging. They may not win it all (though I will be cheering my heart out that they do), but they are going to be an extremely tough out.
They’re a nightmare to play. Most teams coming into the tourney haven’t seen anything like that defense. The challenge will be avoiding those extended stretches where they just have so much trouble scoring…like against Villanova last year in the tournament. But their defense and rebounding keeps them in games, even when shots aren’t falling.
I get it. It totally get it. I just love the ****ing hate. I've hated Memphis since Calipari...and the hate is not stopping anytime soon
When UH makes shots they are Unbeatable. When they don't? Defense can only carry you so much, this is my worry in the Tourney.
The Houston Cougars get little or no respect in the national media. Today in Yahoo sports there are multiple articles on the Michigan basketball team, that is going nowhere, and none on UH. Several other marginal teams get articles as well. In most of the projected brackets, UH is fourth. Cougars are the most disrespected number one team ever.
They played Oregon...... then UVA when they were ranked #2 in the country.....Cincy.... Memphis. It isn't a terribly deep schedule on the road, but they played some teams. I agree the schedule isn't as hard as some others, but they tried to add more tough matchups the last two years and no one wants to play them.
Lol. Easy there chief. Those articles are aggregates from the Detroit Free Press and some blog called 'maize and blue'. It's just serving up what is published by their followed distributors. Our win vs. Memphis is on the main header for their CBB page. We're the lead story on ESPN's CBB page and #1 in their power rankings. We've been talked about regularly all year as a top seed and title favorite. Enjoy the ride. This is no time to be looking for reasons to be upset.
I forgot about the UVA game earlier this year. I'm not sure about the "nobody will play us" stuff. I know they've had a decade or 2 to build their rep, but look at Gonzaga: **** conference, plays everybody ooc (this year: MichSt, UT, Kentucky, Alabama, Purdue, Xavier, Baylor, Washington)
Strength of schedule won’t be a problem next year. UH will be just fine. They’ve shown out well enough in the tourney to prove they aren’t just a paper tiger
