It is 16 in the UK after at least a year on hormone blocks and extensive counseling. Also there is only one clinic in the UK that will start at 16 as far as I know. Also, the age of consent in the UK is 16, so it would make sense that 16 is when you can begin taking hormones. The highest court in the UK said that no one can take hormones until capable of consenting, which is 16. There are clinics in the USA that begin hormones after a single consultation. There are a number of issues with the US medical system (in the UK as well). As for why it’s a bigger problem in the USA, I think politics is part of it. Both sides often paint the issues in black and white and there is a real lack of common sense or honest dialogue.
But isn't much of blackface also just comedy? Shouldn't intent matter? If someone does blackface just for comedic purposes (like Jimmy Kimmel did), is that ok? Or should the person be "canceled"?
That clinic got closed, and rightly so. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/...t-disgraced-gender-clinic-Tavistock-down.html
Women are not a culture, but they have an incredible culture and shared experiences that span across all cultures. This fact is often over looked. Having said that, I don’t know many women that have issues with drag queens. It becomes an issue when people that are born males decide that they are women and do not recognize there is a distinction between females and women - that they also have different experiences growing up and there are other massive differences like child birth, healthcare etc.
Nah,again, you need to remember on Southpark Cartman is the chief antagonist and the writers use him as such. Whatever he's doing, 99% of the time, is bad. This episode was so pro-trans that articles were written at the time how it was so pro-trans... https://slate.com/human-interest/2014/10/south-parks-cissy-episode-was-great-on-trans-issues.html Key points in this article since I know you won't read it. And this part that sums up that whole episode. The episode wasn't making even close to the point you think it was making. It was a "Who TF cares?" because really, who cares? Do you stand outside of women's restrooms making sure only women enter?
Yeah it is just comedy and intent should matter but you know something else? Blackface isn't illegal. It's not banned. If someone wanted to host blackface shows in their local neighborhood they can certainly do so...now I'd imagine they would make a lot of people angry but freedom of speech does not shield you from the reaction. I don't even know what canceled means at this point. If someone does blackface though its possible that they would get such a negative reaction that people want nothing to do with them. Such is life. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes. The intent of drag isn't to dehumanize women, its really just "Hey, isn't that big burly dude dancing in a dress funny?" kind of thing. In fact, the more masculine the guy the better the drag. Drag Queens are not trying to 'pass' as women like Transwomen are.
But I wouldn't define that as culture, shared experiences, sure, but that's true of many subset of people. Like all athletes have shared experiences or all disabled people etc, I wouldn't call that a 'culture' And yeah, women do have experiences that transwomen do not. I've always recognized that.
Let's say that it has more restrictions than blackface does. https://www.npr.org/2023/03/02/1160...blic-drag-shows-transgender-health-care-youth
Drag is sexualized. The idea is to protect children. All drag show enthusiasts (I don't understand the appeal, but whatever) can meet behind closed doors anytime, without children. The outrage over this is ridiculous.
Except not all drag is sexualized. It's not any more sexualized than a pop video is. Are we banning music videos too? And also, moved the goalpost, you said it wasn't banned and I showed you that it was.
Once again, it is factually not sexual. Stop calling it that. Unless you think this is sexual... Like if you do, more power to you, but for most people this movie is not a sexual experience.
Drag queens got bored with reading books to kids a long time ago. All about stripping in front of kids now. That's where it's at.
Post the stories. I don't believe that in this time of the internet those types of stories would not be put on blast.
Then create laws against stripping in front of kids, if they don't already exist. Specifically targeting people in drag with vaguely worded laws is not the way, unless the intent is the culture war BS I mentioned.
Well, if all you do is follow right wing news my guess is these stories won't pop up on your radar but anyways... https://prospect.org/education/02-22-2023-desantis-education-teacher-vacancies/ Who Wants to Teach in Florida? There are very few drag queens reading to kids. I don't know of any that strip in front of kids. Stripping seems to go against the whole point of drag. Once they aren't clothed, they aren't in drag. I have seen nothing of people stripping in front of children.
100% If there are instances of Drag Queens stripping in front of kids, go after those people. The idea that this is inherently sexual in a country where sex is used frequently in advertising, a country that has women parade around in cheerleader outfits at major sporting events, where you can go to any beach and see women in thongs and string bikinis, where you could walk by a strip club in any inner city. A country where magazines always had scantily clad women in its ads, when magazines were a thing at least. I brought up the point of music videos. Obvious some videos are VERY sexual. Nicki Minaj twerking in a video and talking about 'Anacondas' is obviously very sexual. Pharrell made a video with a bunch of naked models parading and dancing around in the video, it was just easily available on youtube. Don't get me started on yoga videos on youtube. Should Yoga be banned? It can clearly be very sexual when a well shaped woman is stretching in all sorts of positions, I wonder how many men find that 'sexual'? The problem with 'banning' things because they are sexual is people are obviously attracted to different stuff. Obviously if people are naked and performing sexual acts in public, that is sexual and should not be in the public eye...but is a man wearing a dress sexual? So I'm made to believe that this... Spoiler Is sexual? I put a spoiler tag on it since I guess it gets some people all hot and bothered here.
