The don't say gay law was supposed to criminalize all gay teachers simply for existing. As far as I know, that hasn't happened even though people argued that the law was too vague. Same thing is happening with this law. It likely won't do anything but keep parents from taking their kids to drag shows. So how about we all agree that drag shows are inappropriate for children and wait and see if this law does anything but stop "kid friendly" drag shows from occuring?
I think we can or at least should agee that none of these people who enacted the law care about children and use it as a culture wars issue for you to care more about trans people than things like cartels through software algorithms inflating the rental market.
If the law doesn't effect anybody and does nothing then my point in it being nothing more than a virtue signal for wealthy bigots to make sure people like you are angry at trans folks rather than them for social issues rings even more true.
Are all drag shows sexualized representations? I thought there might be some that were just singing or dancing. That wouldn't be a contradiction. But even if they are all sexualized representations, but aren't more than PG type stuff seeing one still wouldn't harm anyone if people disagree with resenting those shows to children.
Sexualized shows, drag or otherwise, are inappropriate for young kids. But drag need not be sexual. People in drag reading kids books at a library may seem weird, but it's not sexually inappropriate. Creating laws that imply drag is sexually inappropriate is a transparent culture war strategy to push back against trans and gay acceptance.
You are saying this but there have been stories of people moving. Unfortunately, when it comes to stuff like this the stories of the discriminated always come out later, expecting there to be some instant readout of its effects is silly, that's not how history works. Even in its most extreme of cases people didn't know of things the Nazi's were doing to Jewish people long after they started doing it and again, this is an extreme case. The effects of this bill, if here are any, will be told in stories down the road when we get past this recent transpanic you all have been worked up into. I've read enough personal stories to say the bill has done what it intended to do, it has made LGBTQ+ teachers scared of existing. It has made some of them get up and move out of state. Wasn't DeSantis just crying about teachers taking books off of their shelves were just doing it to troll him or something? Point is, discriminatory policies like this and their effects on the targeted group are not always obvious, especially to someone like yourself that's so far from the targeted group that it doesn't even concern you at all. The fact that we now have a spate of anti-trans bills popping up nearly monthly now should give you pause. That people are at a major conservative conference applauding banning ALL trans people from public life and you go "Maybe we should wait and see how far they want to take this?" Eh, I've seen enough. You'll keep giving them an inch here and there and then will go all shocked pikachu when they eventually take their mile.
The funny thing about this. Drag shows and drag queens have nothing to do with being Trans in the first place. As I've mentioned before, men have been pretending to be women for comedy since the very dawn of performing arts. A man putting on a dress and makeup and a wig and speaking in a high pitch is exactly that. Martin Lawerence is now a Trans woman according to some and this PG-13 movie should be banned entirely from the eyes of children.
16 is the age for hormone therapy for transgender people in the UK. Perhaps our for profit healthcare system has something to do with these "clinics" popping up.
The whole point of that South Park episode was that no one should care lol. Right wingers seem to forget that Cartman is not ever the protagonist of the show...
Is it not similar to "cultural appropriation", though? Also, why is "blackface" bad, but this is not? Aren't people playing something they are not, in both cases?
The point is that it was a parody of what is today Same with the episode where macho man went trans and beat all the women at sports Nobody does care about what you think you are But when dudes who pretend to be girls force the Toronto raptors to apologize women make babies then we are in bizzaro world @AroundTheWorld
Is there a history of people doing it to dehumanize women? There are two very different histories. The history derision to women is very real but it is different in terms of men dressing as them.
Women are not a culture and it's not blackface because blackface was used to further demean a group of people. Drag Queen and mocking women in this way is just standard battle of the sexes stuff. I'm sure it offends some people or women but probably the same amount of people that get offended when a comedian starts his (or her) jokes about the opposite sex. Most of it just seems to be men wearing silly outfits dancing, singing, or doing some kind of performance. Drag Kings also exist btw and we've had female comedians that have dressed up as men and mocked them too. It's just...comedy.
