This is exactly how I feel- exactly! Second. My only concern is Richardson is so unpredictable by the analysts, but he has so much upside as well.

Rick Speilman said it without saying it.

"I think he has a lot of Patrick Mahomes-style to him. And by that, I mean that he is one of the best off-schedule throwers that I've seen coming out of the collegiate game. He does a great job, for a small quarterback with his vision down the field, his anticipation and the way he throws the ball and he throws receivers open."

McCown said something similar. Haven't found it yet, though.

Pretty sure what Spielman is saying there could be considered "arm talent". He's a former GM, too. Not a bad one, either.

Either way, there's a person that said it. And a highly qualified one, at that.

    Not hyperbole.

Again, they aren’t comparing arm talent. They’re comparing off schedule ability.
Young is nowhere near Mahomes in terms of arm talent. That is complete hyperbole

    Agree to disagree.

If that quote by Spielman isn't talking about arm talent, can you please define what arm talent is for me? I must not know what we're talking about with arm talent then...

Mahomes's most defining characteristic is his arm talent. If you say someone has "Mahomes-style", and then talk about what he can do with throwing the football and making off schedule throws, I think that's a discussion on arm talent.

He’s saying he’s good at anticipation, leading receivers and off platform throws. All things Mahomes is elite at, what makes him elite is not only the ability to go off script, he has the arm strength from multiple angles that only a couple players have.
Young has different arm angles and the ability to make plays outside of structure, but he isn’t beating you with arm talent alone, it’s processing and brain talent.
He doesn’t have the arm to take the top off at any time, or cross field outside the hashes on a rope.

Young has great overall ability with his arm, but it’s not in the same class as Mahomes.

I think first we have to distinguish that arm talent and pure arm strength are two different things. Young has great arm talent because he can throw accurately from all sorts of different arm angles and platforms. Mahomes can do the same. The big difference is that Mahomes has elite arm strength and Young only has average to above average arm strength.

Right, but arm strength at different angles is a big part of Mahomes success. Without the power from multiple angles, he would be a lot less efficient.
Arm strength is a big component of overall arm talent.

    Exactly this.

We need to separate arm talent from arm strength. Just because Mahomes has elite levels of both, doesn't make it hyperbole for a former GM to compare Young's arm talent to Mahomes's.

These are two different things. You can have elite arm talent while having good enough arm strength.

I presented a direct quote of someone (a former GM, at that) saying that Young has " Mahomes-style" arm talent despite being told that not one single person has said that.

We're talking semantics here, and that's fine, but without question, my statement was factual, and not hyperbolic.

Comparing Youngs arm talent to Mahomes is ridiculous. Mahomes has one of the top 3 arms in the league. Bryce Young is no where similar in terms of pure arm talent. He is adequate enough to be a good qb, but Mahomes is elite.

I don't disagree, necessarily. I'm just pointing out that the comparison has been made.

I do think that Young's pure arm talent will immediately be in the top half of the league (not purely arm strength), though I wouldn't compare it to Mahomes, who has all-time great level arm talent.

I will also say I think Young can definitely be a top 5 level arm talent in the league. In terms of arm strength, he's probably near the middle of the pack.

If you ask former nfl QBs and current ones, there is a distinction between arm talent and arm strength. Arm strength is just one of many factors that make up arm talent. That’s why it’s possible to say someone reminds them of Mahomes arm talent wise even though they aren’t close in terms of arm strength.

No one is denying that. You’re making up an argument.
Regardless, Young is nowhere near Mahomes in arm talent at all.
Arm strength is a major factor in overall arm talent, specifically the ability to have power from different angles. Young has the ability to throw from different angles, but his ability to be mobile and be accurate while moving is special. His arm is solid, his brain and processing is elite

Kyler's arm length 28.4, wingspan 69.5 for comparison

If Young is Kyler Murray’s size with far superior intangibles, leadership, intelligence, drive, accuracy, pocket awareness, processing speed and decision making then he should be a no doubt # 1.

Never understand all the thirst for these “prototypical” sized, rocket arm, underwear olympians who constantly bust because they lack what really matters between the ears.

I agree with you on the intangibles. But Kyler is a different tier of athlete, if Bryce was the athlete Kyler is then it wouldn’t be a discussion

    Very much hyperbole

No way Young is near the god given talent level of Mahomes.

Best case scenario is he becomes Brees.
