Then they can just sign Mike Minor. There are a few guys out there that can do the job in free agency.
I can't imagine MLB would pass on this opportunity because fans of commercials hate being interrupted by baseball.
What i would be ok with is live advertising for baseball cards, for example, touch screen purchasing. So not unlike MLB the show 23, where a player comes up to bat, they show the baseball card, u can't touch screen purchase it. Or even after a guys first hit, you can touch screen the card to get the game used bat/base card from the event. This would increase interest in people watching the game to get the special card. Kids need a reason to watch a 2 hour event.
I could be wrong but I don’t think there will be any tweaks. I think they are going to keep it the same because they value consistency and dependability over any idea of optimizing certain key situations. they want these guys to play with a certain internal clock (and should want that) and messing with it late innings or 3-2 or with 2 outs doesn’t facilitate that. They don’t want to make this thing gimmicky- they want people to essentially take no notice of it within a month or two (and I think that’s what will happen).
They are scared to death of their games going too long and being too drawn out and losing an entire generation of ADHD and tic tock kids. And they probably should be. They aren’t going to want to go backwards.
New fad. National Coin Flip League Exactly 2 1/2 hours of commercials and a 10 second coin flip to decide the winner. No time for actually playing a game. Penalties for flipping the coin after 5 seconds. It's the betting that holds the interest. Professional betters will tell you how to bet $5000 per week and become major advertisers. No. I don't like ANY of the changes after 1920.
Pitchers who should have a solid year: 1.Valdez 2.Javier 3.Garcia Pitchers who will most likely struggle 1.Urquidy 2. Hunter Brown (reputation is he lacks control... needs to prove otherwise over 155 innings) 3. Lance McCullers. Injuries will always be a concern. Does he pitch 100 innings this year?
Average time for a baseball game in 1920 was 1 hour and 58 minutes. We can make just as compelling of an argument that these rule changes are for you than any other segment of fans to get the game back closer to what it was. You always tell us you fall asleep during the games. You should be ecstatic that you might be able to stay up and see complete games.
How many commercials in 1920? I really don't think the game itself takes that much longer other than pitching changes and substitutions.
The question is, has the time between innings changed much. National TV games and playoff games have longer breaks. What is the time between innings of regular local broadcast games now versus 100 years ago.
The cognitive dissonance between people complaining about these rules and calling themselves “old school” is quite frankly staggering. It’s the dumbest non issue ever and people are going to feel really stupid about it in 3 months (if they are capable of actual honest self reflection).
Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. Go watch any game from the 60’s thru the 80’s and put a stop watch on it. It’s not even ****ing close dude.
How do you feel about "ghostrunners" starting on second in the 10th inning? Are we allowed to have an opinion or should we feel stupid for not liking it?
We are just stupid for not liking the "modern" sped up game. All other opinions must be ridiculed and persons canceled from existence. ADD or DIE.
It's worth noting that in the 16 inning game 6 vs Mets, there were a total of 9 pitchers used. In the 10 inning game 5 vs. Dodgers, there were a total of 14 pitchers used. That is a major difference in how the game was played in the 60's thru 80's and does add a lot of extra down time to current mlb games.
Additional You love comparing Apples and Oranges. Game times for regular season games NOT ON TV were very much shorter. Additional time elements were the introduction of more and specialized pitching. Frequent mound visits and frequent substitutions. But squeezing the Baseball out of the time is what is RIDICULUS.
Interesting breakdown of times for a game 30 yrs apart: https://www.sbnation.com/a/mlb-2017-season-preview/game-length
That’s absolutely fine to not like. That’s actually a real break from tradition and not ever a part of baseball. Getting the game to fit into a 150 minute time block and upping the action quotient isn’t revolutionary. Or even a change. It’s a return to the game the way it was meant to be played. for ****s sake did you ever watch Roy O pitch? He was ****ing beloved and not just bc he was good but because you knew he wasn’t going to **** around on the mound. And the games were crisp. And full of action.
For ****s sake dude go out a stop watch on it. You are wrong. And it’s empirical you are wrong. You could tell me you prefer **** flavored iced cream to vanilla and I would not argue with you bc you are entitled to whatever stupid opinion you want to have, but you are arguing that 2+2 =‘s potato.
