he's already doing the good lord's work by keeping the memory of the summit alive. would've been demolished if he hadn't swooped in

This is factually incorrect. He makes $54 million from book sales, not from the Church. He hasn't taken a salary from the church since 2005.

Ya, I am not saying he doesn't make money but if you are going to tweet sh** about someone, at least get the facts straight.

fact is, he is going to make money outside of church. from speaking gigs to books to videos...if the expectation is that anyone in a religious setting turn around and immediately donate it back...then so be it but that does seem a bit harsh no?

and by the look of his house and jet and extravagant lifestyle he didnt give much back to his church........you know, the ones who fund everything. I want my pastor to be like Jesus, humble and always giving back to the flock. Any pastor who is flying around in a private plane and living in a house that looks like a compound is a fraud in my book

So how much does he make in a year? According to Celebrity Net Worth, Joel Osteen has a net worth of $100 million. His book sales, radio show, public speaking fees, and other collections reportedly generate more than $70 million per year in total revenue. When he was asked about this massive money. Joel claims an individual should not feel guilt for possessing lots of material wealth.

It is known that he does indeed tithe to Lakewood. A tithe is 10%, so you're looking at up to $5.4 million dollars a year based on his income.

The question is are all writers who make millions frauds? Or is it just the writers who write feel-good pseudo-religious self-improvement books?
Stephen King makes millions writing books with religious themes..is he a fraud? Or would he only be a fraud if he volunteers for his church?

Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. '”
    Luke 6:20-21 (NIV)

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God
    (Matthew 19:24)

Why art so many non-Christians better Christians than those who sayeth they hath found Jesus?

The difference is Stephen King does this full time and that's his job, Joel is a pastor and should lead is flock, that's his calling (so he says) so I think the comparison isn't apples to apples, but I get your point. If you are asking your flock for donations and they are probably tithing and buying all the "merch", then I think Jeol should be giving more to help the needy. My pastor leads a rather large Church and was actually friends with Joel`s dad (who was an awesome man) and you wont see him in a private jet or a 20 bedroom compound, he lives up the street in a house that the church pays for and he draws a modest salary with full benefits. He goes and speaks all over the US and the Church pays for it and in our Church community the pastor doesn't get a huge speaking fee, they do it for free because it's the right thing to do.

Considering I have negative thoughts often, it's a refreshing message. I know a **** ton of people hate him, but oh well lol. I don't take him THAT seriously. But do like the message.

    They really don't.

I have issues with the Catholic Church, but this isn't one of them.

Right - Lakewood has a budget of roughly 100 million dollars.

Out of that budget they spend about 80 million on administrative costs, television costs, and service costs.

That leaves about 20 million dollars.

Out of that 20 million they spend around 15-18 million on fundraising.

How much do they spend on outreach and missions? about 1-2 million dollars.

So roughly 1-2% go to outreach programs and missions.

The church funds almost entirely are spent on GROWING the church and entertaining the members on Sunday.

Is that ethical? I suppose that is up to the individual to decide.

I'm not a Christian and people like Joel Osteen certainly aren't winning me over to Christianity. It's not my place to decide what is Christian or not but from what I understand of the message of Jesus Osteen doesn't appear to be preaching or living that.

Is Stephen King using a tax free church to advertise and push his books? Is that what Osteen is doing? How much money is enough? Does any of this have anything to do with Jesus?
