I believe that women overall are better leaders than men - they tend to consider more POV than men do.

The most evil were also very successful......

I have to give a shout out to the Mount Rushmore of Hitler, Stalin, ZeDong and my Indian slayer Churchill.

Pol Pot is warming up in the bullpen and Reinhard Heydrich is standing up and stretching out ready to pinch hit for Hitler.

The others would be Idi Amin.

As far as there being women leaders, there were a lot of very good ones in the 20th century..... Benazir Bhutto was an exceptional ruler

What's your point here? There have been many accomplishments by both men and women during the past 100 years. I don't see why you're knocking men for creating/inventing...

    Airplane
    TV
    Computer
    Radio
    Nuclear Power
    The Automobile
    Antibiotics
    Internet

There is some speculation that Lori Lightfoot is losing her job in Chicago because of her (perceived) soft-on-crime politics. There is evidence of Chicago being less peaceful and more violent under Lightfoot's leadership than in the past.

If Lightfoot's being soft on crime is linked to her sex, then that might suggest (based on N=1) that women leaders might result in a more violent world, not a more peaceful one.

    related:

    https://althouse.blogspot.com/2023/03/lightfoot-may-be-harbinger-or-at-least.html

"... Lightfoot may be a harbinger, or at least a warning, for the other big-city Black mayors..."
    by noreply@blogger.com (Ann Althouse)

"... will their mostly non-Black citizens feel that their safety is being prioritized and secured under Black leadership?"

Concludes Charles Blow, in "The Spectacular Fall of Lori Lightfoot" (NYT).

... Lightfoot belongs to a group of recently elected Black mayors of major American cities, including Eric Adams in New York, Sylvester Turner in Houston and Karen Bass in Los Angeles. In those cities, Black people are outnumbered by other nonwhite groups, and in New York City and Chicago their ranks are dwindling. Each of these four mayors was elected or re-elected around the height of two seismic cultural phenomena — Black Lives Matter and the pandemic....
Blow interviewed Lightfoot 4 days before the first round of the election (in which Lightfoot, with 2 candidates outpolling her, failed to advance). About Paul Vallas, the white man who came in first with 34% of the vote, she said:

“He is giving voice and platform to people who are hateful of anyone who isn’t white and Republican in our city, in our country.”
    And:

“People who are not used to feeling the touch of violence, particularly people on the North Side of our city, they are buying what he’s selling.”
She's insinuating that it's racist to care too much about your own physical safety. It's obviously impolitic to say that too clearly. Blow also proceeds gently (and abstrusely!):

In this moment, when the country has still not come to grips with the wide-ranging societal trauma that the pandemic exacerbated and unleashed, mayors are being held responsible for that crime. If all politics is local, crime and safety are the most local. And when the perception of crime collides with ingrained societal concepts of race and gender, politicians, particularly Black women, can pay the price.
What's he saying other than the obvious reality that mayors are held responsible for crime? Does he really mean to say that black mayors — or women mayors — are held more responsible?

In 2021, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms of Atlanta chose not to seek re-election, becoming the city’s first Black mayor to serve only a single term, after wrestling with what she called the “Covid crime wave.”

Mayor LaToya Cantrell of New Orleans is facing a possible recall, largely over the issue of crime in her city, and organizers said this week that they have gathered enough signatures to force a recall vote....

Yes, I think Blow means to say that people suspect that woman mayors, black mayors, and, especially, black women mayors are soft on crime.

I'm talking strictly about leaders ruling countries. We don't need war, genocide, or evil to run a country efficiently. If leaders weren't so power hungry and downright evil, then we wouldn't need to spend billions on defending our own countries and protecting other countries from evil. I'm not talking about inventors, actors, or anyone else. I'm talking about leaders. My whole point is that the majority of evil has stemmed from men as leaders and yet we still live in a country where women, no matter how honest, brilliant, and trustworthy, have never ruled out country.

I'd love to see better choices coming from women as the prime candidates for their parties in 2024 instead of two very old white men on the downward end of their physical and mental state, with one being a complete psychopathic liar. The third guy, DeSantis, well he's a hate monger and right winger, who could do so much damage.

I don't believe for a second that there isn't a woman in this entire country who is smart enough, capable enough, and trustworthy enough to do the job without running on hate, division, propaganda, and lies to get the votes. I also believe there must be someone who isn't evil, a war monger, or an associate of white collar criminals out there who could do it well.

I'm trying to think of one super evil woman and I cannot come up with one that would crack the top 10.

That leads me back to my theory that a lot of evil things done by men go back to rejection and sexual frustration earlier in life. Guys like Hitler and Putin etc. strike me as losers who could never get laid when they were younger and not powerful. Same with a lot of Islamist terrorists.

So, umm, "indirectly", it might be the women's fault ;).

I just can't see one ounce of charisma in Hitler. He's not a bit good looking. Not at all.

I’ve just skimmed this thread but just by sheer numbers of deaths the top are
    Mao ZeDong
    Stalin
    Hitler
    Pol Pot
Sukarno - he is less known in the West but was the president of Indonesia in the late 60’s when possible over a million Indonesians were killed in anti-communist programs that spiraled into ethnic and religious killings
Tojo Hideki - the leader of Japan during WWII. It’s always been interesting to note how he isn’t among the pantheon of evil.
Idi Amin - whose brutal rule might’ve led to 500k deaths.
Rounding out the rest of the top ten of evil the last 100 years
Robert Mugabe - Long time leader of Zimbabwe
    Ferdinand Marcos

Abu Al-Baghdadi - the leader of ISIS / DAESH. This is an honorable mention because it’s possible he is a composite figure.

There’s a lot of other horrible people but unfortunately the 20th and so far 21st Century was chock full of blood and terrible people.

I know as an American board it’s tempting to add US presidents but I don’t think any US President scratches the top ten. This isn’t because we’ve only had good presidents but that our system does keep presidents in check. As such the evil acts of this country blame can be spread out collectively.

I get that a lot of people feel that women would make better and less evil leaders. I’m not so sure about that as there have been evil and awful women leaders:
Catherine the Great killed a lot of people and Mary I (Bloody Mary) of England and Scotland tried to reverse the Reformation and killed many Protestants.
Byzantine Empress Theodora was seen as the power behind the throne and was brutal in her rule.
Chinese history is full of brutal women leaders. Wu ZeTian was probably the greatest leader of the T’ang Dynasty and she ruled with an iron and bloody grip also.

More recently there have been awful women leaders like Jiang Qing (Madame Mao) who was partly responsible for the Cultural Revolution and was the leader of the Gang of Four in the chaotic time after Mao’s death.
Imelda Marcos looted the Philippines and one of the leaders of the Rwandan Genocide was a woman.

Why women haven’t gotten as much notoriety as men in history is likely because there have been far less women who have gotten to the highest echelons of power.

My point is not to vote those types in, but that there have to be thousands of women who are NOT evil, and could certainly run this country. It's crazy that we haven't had a woman leader. I don't believe for a second that only men are fit to hold the office. I also don't believe that will happen. We still have a long way to go when it comes to gender equality and racial equality. We have far too many politicians who are white men thinking they are the superior gender and race when it comes to leading this country, as the revolving door of the good ole boys rich elite slither their way to the top.
