In DEFENSE of Alperen Sengun - Analysis on why Sengun may already be an above average defender

Much like the knights in the KPJ thread, data is just explained away or the blame is passed to teammates and coaching.

NBA truths since the existence of the league are claimed to be myth.

I think Sengun is clearly the best player on this team. But most of y’all are straight up delusional…

I dont doubt sengun rebounding ability, he's well honed in the fundamentals aka boxing out. What worries me is his ability to guard dem guards when they switch or target him.

We spent years watching harden make big defensive centers even better than sengun, the beard's btch. It's not too far fetched to believe sengun suffering a similar fate during playoffs in the future. I don't blame folks 4 doubting sengun defensive ability especially when we all saw first hand how easily harden targeted him and scored on his a$$ at will.

Great offensive potential, but I would b lying to myself if I think sengun right now is an "above average defender"

Please tell me how the guy who gets the 9th most rebounds and 12th most blocks per minute in the entire freaking NBA "doesn't have the tools", is "unathletic", "can't jump", "is a hopeless defender"?

I can accept that he gets caught out of position/needs to learn and improve his defense, etc.

But do these stats scream out "he is unathletic/can never get there"?

How about you give a serious answer for once?

I have no idea why you continue this anti-Sengun schtick, smart players should appeal to smart people, really. You dug in and can't get out.

Because those guys can learn and apply and become good / elite defenders. They have the tools.

There is no system where Sengun is going to be not terrible. It's plain as day.

how often do you watch vucevic? i saw some data recently lauding his defense, something if i recall well about bulls having 5th defensive rating in nba with him

 

Vucevic is definitely a worse defender than Alpi. Difference is, he doesn't get badmouthed and scapegoated by his own coach.

Great fun player to watch, very efficient, underutilized offensively.

Struggle to get to neutral in general on defense, and pray he isn't completely unplayable in the playoffs.

On a championship team, the guy is a great bench player. Not a guy you build a team around.

 

How can he do that without being athletic? I’ll tell you….. by be 6’9” playing on a 10 foot rim, that’s how you dunk and block an occasional shot lol.

do a search for "Alpi" or "Sengun" or "Al Pee" in any of the game threads--ANY of them--and you come back and tell me that "the next time you say something even remotely positive about Sengun will be the first."
