Report: Houston is the No. 1 most stressful city for workers in U.S.
Researchers compared factors like average workweek hours and average commute time and found that Houston is the worst city in the U.S. for worker stress

Houston was number one on the list, followed by a slew of Texas cities.
A new study just confirmed what most Houstonians who brave a daily commute already knew: holding down a job in the Bayou City is a uniquely stressful enterprise.

The study, published by the market research and education group LLC.ORG, compared more than 170 cities from across the U.S. on several factors, including average workweek, average commute time, the rate of workers without health insurance and beyond. After weighting each of these selected variables and generating an overall score for each cities' worker stress level, Houston earned the number one spot.

LLC.ORG researchers highlighted a few variables that make the day-to-day grind especially tough in the Bayou City. "Overall, workers in Houston clock in an average of 39.5 hours per week at work, which is above the national average of 38.7 hours. Houstonians also have an above average daily commute of 52.8 minutes roundtrip. One in three are on the road each morning before 7 a.m.," researchers noted in their report.

"And when it comes to stressful financial factors, 46.6% of families in Houston are single-income families. Elsewhere, the income growth rate in Houston (4.5%) is below the national average (6.2%)," researchers noted. "Workers in Houston also have limited flexibility in terms of remote work, according to Census Bureau data. Studies have shown that working remotely can reduce work-related stress, but only 15.6% of Houstonians work remotely, which is also below the national average (17.9%)." they added.

Houston workers can at least take comfort that fellow Texans share in their misery: according to LLC.ORG's report, three of the top five most stressful cities for workers are in Texas, with Arlington and Dallas following Houston in spots two and three respectively. Overall, 10 of the top 30 most stressful cities. for workers in the U.S. are in Texas, LLC.ORG researchers found.

Find that a little surprising, but I haven't spent significant time in my home town in many years.

@tinman can you help us digest this report? Surely something in Cali is far, far worse, right? Do you have a tweet that can resolve this?

I wonder how much the crime rate is factored in. They mention it as a factor but don’t show it on the chart. Seems like we are close to the average on everything except health insurance.

edit: looks like crime rate is worth 10/100 points.

Don’t blame me for those suckers who live in Conroe and have to drive downtown

cali is less stressful because nobody is there

New report shows thousands of workers have left downtown San Francisco

Speaking of the city, this should mean that I can get a table with no problem at house of prime rib when I visit at the end of the month

keep those homeless people away from my rental car breh

I believe it. Shifting to working from home almost every day has been a life changer. Blood pressure, weight, overall health and stress, have all improved dramatically. Not to mention I actually have weeknight evenings again.

Yeah I'm glad I part of the 15.6% working remotely. Before the pandemic I would be commuting for 3-4 hours per day. I appreciate that I'm able to use those hours sleeping now. Much healthier.

    In Houston they are lame,
    The McNair family's name,
    Football is their game,
    Texans fans cheer in vain.

    From father to son,
    Their legacy's just not fun,
    With nepotism they haven't won,
This is nothing that can be overcome.

    Bob, Janice, and Cal,
    The team that always falls,
    The Texans don't stand tall,
    With McNairs, football management appalls.

    Through trials and strife,
    They've failed the football life,
With each loss, they fail to thrive,
And the McNairs' futility comes alive.

So here's to the McNair clan,
Houston's football fans form a band,
    With hateful hearts in hand,
For their disappointment of the Texans and their man.

Clearly they need more freeways... time to have every major one under construction for the next 20 years.
