I find it hard to believe that Tennessee doesn't already have a law against adult performances in public. What exactly are "male or female impersonators," and how does that qualify as adult performance? SB3-HB9 doesn't even attempt to define it. This bill appears to have zero to 100% impact on people who don't fit the mold of the "straight binary regular folks." It looks like another stupid bill that's riding on the anti-LGBT wave from Republican politicians.

You've taken the word "woke" and rendered it truly meaningless. There's nothing "woke" about recognizing blatant discrimination. Being "woke" is about seeing (or thinking you're seeing) discrimination that is obscured. Here, it is plain as day. And all you've got, literally, is, "Whatever, I don't care." Which is fine. Go to another thread and complain about masks some more, in that case. People who actually care about the blatant discrimination in this bill can then continue to discuss it without your constant attempts at diverting the topic.

Let's suppose there was a law banning "lewd public behavior" which lists, as an example, "people of the same sex kissing each other". And then some dude in an internet thread with pretensions of truly understanding what freedom means decided to launch into accusations that others who opposed the law are trying to defend the rights of children to watch gay men kissing each other. This is what you're doing here. It's an unbelievably idiotic framing of what's being discussed.
I understand that some people are uncomfortable with drag queens or other things they don't understand or fear, but it's not fair to extend their phobia to children. For the sake of children, we need to leave them out of it. We've already had enough overly protective and helicopter parenting for a whole generation, and it's likely a major contributor to the spike in children's anxiety. We don't need children to grow up learning your fear and intolerance.
oops. i didnt read the whole article. so it basically opens the door to legally going after trans people if they dare go out in public. its worded so vaguely that it would be up to interpretation of whomever is enforcing it. id like to think there is no way this will pass, but 'murica.
That's like saying people shouldn't pass blonde hair or brown skin onto your kids. Very unfair to them. People confuse tolerance with indoctrination. The reason they go into schools and do this is to so that other kids won't be bullied.
im personally not threatened. i just think its dumb and theyre dorks. and its nothing against gays/trans/ect...if ana de armas went to the library to read to kids dressed, make-uped and wearing a tiara like that id make fun of her too. she would look ridiculous. if these two were in "regular" clothes it wouldnt be the national issue that it has become. like i said earlier, i think people doing this are actually hurting the LGBTQ cause.
Who gives a ****? Why all of a sudden are so many drag queens hell bent on reading to children. Of all the things to get in an uproar over, drag shows are weird. Both groups of people are making this a bigger deal than it should be. Kids don’t really care - they are both turning children into pawns for their politics and it’s disgusting. Get pissed about something important.
The composition of skin is mostly determined by genetics, while learned behavior is shaped by nurture. I believe it's important not to pass on one's fears, prejudices, and phobias to children. However, I understand that for parents who already have these characteristics, it is almost impossible to prevent this. Hopefully those parents realize that their kids are better off not learning their weaknesses. Nonetheless, as a society, we should strive to prevent these negative traits being pushed onto all children.
Its not the appearance itself. Its any bit of underlying body dysphoria to it isnt really healthy to normalize, imo. Dyshoria can be a serious condition. Then, drag shows can be sexually raunchy. Its not coming from a real wholesome place, regardless of its normalizaion. Its like, there's a difference in hiding the dirty things adults do behind a front of goodness. (Like say, cops & soldiers). Compared to actually dressing the part of someone going out for a dirty time. But guess we've Iong crossed a threshhold of people getting famous by sex tapes & them being future "role models"

I don't think anyone on page one (I haven't read beyond that yet) is arguing in favor of drag shows. Rather, they're saying that they're against the arbitrary banning of performance and speech for political reasons. That opposition is a founding principle of this country.
