I'm really not sure what data that is telling you guys that. I'm sure a TPA chart is going to pop up though.

Interestingly enough, he's still somehow 7th on the rookie ladder, so it looks like there's probably more than a few people that think he's not only the worst player on the team but also somehow one of the worst players in the NBA.

Despite his poor shooting, the most frustrating thing with Jabari is he has the potential to be really good defensively. Ability to guard 1-5 spots but it's just kind of fallen apart. Haven't heard Lock-smith in a while.

So, in short, you know your wishful thinking about how Jabari is doing runs completely counter to literally all evidence... but you just want to believe.

That's fair I guess, but there's no arguing with that type of blind faith type argumentation.

Nope, not blind faith, I just understand that advanced metrics come with context as well. Morey would tell you that himself, you don't just look at the metrics and forget all context. So what's the context with the chart TPA chart's that's been going around?

The problem with using TPA in this instance and saying "SEE WHERE HE'S AT ON THE CHART!" assumes that if you replaced him with Garuba you'd get a better outlook. It's the same flawed argument about Green, if you put Nix in Green's role/minutes you'd get WORSE TPA. This is why you think Green is worse than Nix, no one legit thinks that, a chart may say it but Nix can't play Green's role and Nix can barely play 6 minutes before he falls apart.

No one believes that. His TPA is low because of the minutes and role he has on the team, since he gets so many minutes it means he has to produce to make those minutes worth it. Everyone knows Jabari wouldn't get 30+ mpg on an average team, that's why he's on a rebuilding team getting as many minutes as possible in hopes he learns and adjusts to the NBA asap.

So, if you honestly believe that say Garuba or whoever on the team would do well with his minutes and role, then I mean...make that argument, because when you're saying he's the worst player on the team you are ALSO saying that if you gave Garuba 30 mins he'd be more effective than Jabari. I assure you no one coaching or closely watching would ever say such a thing.

One thing you never do with advanced metrics is compare players that play different roles. If you want a TPA chart amongst all-star players to determine who is the best player in the NBA? Sure, it makes sense. Doing so with rookies? Well, different rookies play different roles. If Jabari was drafted to a better team playing a more limited role with more limited minutes there is a greater chance his TPA would not be so low.

...that's what is so absurd about the SOFs because we all agree that Sengun is one of the brighter spots on this roster. The problem isn't that we don't all love Sengun - it's that people get all hostile when you suggest Sengun is anything less than Jokic 2.0. You guys take any perceived negative towards Sengun at all as hating on him. He can be our favorite player and we can still be critical of his defense - both of those things can be true. You don't have to beat your chest that you are defending poor Sengun just because someone who is also a fan suggests he still has a lot of work to do on his game.

While it is true that the reason his numbers in compilation metrics show him to be so detrimentally terrible is due in part to him having so much opportunity to be terrible.... that's not really the defense you seem to think it is.

While it's true that some players would likely be worse in those types of metrics if given that kind of opportunity.... it means that no one as terrible as him is allowed to play such heavy minutes.... well, other than Jalen Green.

The fact that every bit of evidence available suggests Smith is mediocre defensively and absolutely abhorrent offensively means he's performing terribly. There's simply no argument otherwise.

He's not the best rookie forward on his own team so you can't even blame Silas.

Well, it is the defense I think it is because your argument is that he's the worst player on the team, along with Jalen Green.

So that means you think Garuba could play 30 minutes a night and be more effective. Don't try to move the goal posts on this point, either he's the worst player on the team like you're claiming he is AND Garuba could play those minutes or you were just being hyperbolic. Choose one.

I am 100% certain that we would be a better team TODAY with Garuba playing PF for 30 minutes next to Alpi than we are with Jabari. No doubt.

In fact, it is not even close.

Garuba is a better defender, rebounder, 3-point shooter and certainly passer than Jabari is. Easily.

Jabari's jump shot is prettier and he is a better free throw shooter. Those are literally the only things he is better at than Garuba TODAY.

The only thing Garuba does better is shoot...and no one even defends that. You want a clogged paint then yeah, you'd play Garuba with Sengun. Not sure how that's going to work for Sengun.

I feel for this dude. He’s embarrassing himself nightly at this point. He is showing absolutely zero signs of growth. Looks like Dragen Bender 2.0.

I guess we gotta keep blindly defending his performances though….

Jabari better handle, better inside finisher? Than anyone...lol

Nobody is going to mistake Garuba for an offensive juggernaut, but at least he plays to his own strengths and is not completely delusional. For whatever reason, Jabari just has the green light to do whatever, regardless of whether he is even halfway decent at it or not.

I personally like Garuba. I think he is the kind of player that develops into a winning 3rd or 4th big.

Garubs looks (even) clumsier, but I actually don't think he's worse. Sadly.

its not the clumsyness , its the overall size and athleticism ( paint finishing ) . garuba just doesnt have the size or explosion to score underneath if he gets the ball in a crowd. jarabi is at least an OK proposition

He looks like a bust, he was top3 pick projected to be 1. He just didnt handle transition to proffesional basketball.

Being 7th on a rookie ladder is pretty consistent with being among the worst in the NBA among qualifying players.

It's something like only 10- 12 rookies have played "regulars" minutes at this stage, and Jabari s offensive numbers are at the bottom of those guys.
