Next year will tell us a lot. I think up to this point he's shown that he's roughly the same as Jokic. But year 3 was the year that Jokic actually looked like he was in all star territory. And Jokic is also one of the biggest development outliers in league history. Like, we're basically saying "as long as he is twice as good next year as he was the year before" for like 5 straight years, then he'll be just like Jokic. That's a pretty ridiculous developmental path and there are probably less than 5 guys in NBA history who have done something like that. I think he's on that path...but to get to the final destination is still a really really unlikely scenario.
It’s not hating, it’s facts man. You think this dude is a future MVP and HoF. He’s looking like Kanter with passing abilities
First of all, there is a 14 % chance of getting Wemby. As a Rockets fan, I would be very excited about getting Wemby - he would be perfectly complementary to Alpi. And he could have more shots, no problem. Sengun is and always will be a better playmaker than Wemby. Wemby probably is the better outside shooter (tbd) and shot-blocker. He will also unfortunately likely be a lot more injury-prone. I don't really see where else Wemby would produce more than Alpi. FG % will be worse - depending on how his outside shot develops and his FT%, maybe he will get to a similar TS % as Alpi. Assists will be lower. Steals likely lower. Scoring maybe a bit higher. Secondly, I don't see any reason why Alpi should not be able to add jump shots and a 3-point shot to his repertoire eventually. He isn't a fantastic free throw shooter, but also not a Ben Wallace, and his form seems fine.
Nuggets were easy food when we had Harden primarily because Jokic could not defend a PnR or survive on switches to save his life…Nuggets wanted nothing to do with us the best the Nuggets have been defensively in the Jokic era is 10th…they have usually been slightly below average or bottom 10 even this year, they are ranked 13th which is basically elite for the Jokic era…we’ll see if their defense gets taken advantage of in the postseason
Alpi had an off-game tonight, and had the same number of assists as Kanter in his career high game, out of 748 games played. The only thing they have in common is the country they are originally from.
I am well aware of the Rockets chances of getting Wemby…and despite the low odds, that is still what the Rockets are desperately praying for…Tilman wasn’t lying when he drunkenly said “pray for Victor” Sengun and Wemby are eons apart as prospects…a Grand Canyon sized gulf between them, and it’s not in Sengun’s favor if the Rockets get him, they will finally have an actual franchise player to build around
its not like hes about to hit his athletic prime either. Hes not getting any younger out there. This is as good as its going to get
As a Rockets fan, I'm always in favour of assembling more talent rather than less. If we could get Harden and Wemby, I would of course do it. I don't care if that means lower stats for Alpi. It would mean more wins for the Rockets. PG: Harden (TyTy) SG: Green (JC) SF: Jabari or Tari (KMJ, Tate) PF: Wemby (Jabari or Tari) C: Sengun (Garuba) How could a Rockets fan not be excited by the potential of this? And I don't care who would be called "franchise player". Initially, it would be Harden, and then probably Sengun and Wemby both, with Green likely scoring more than either of them.
Source: The hype machine/your opinion. Sengun was MVP in a better league than Wemby is in, at a younger age. Wemby obviously has the amazing height and an incredibly unusual combination of height and shooting ability and shot-blocking ability (which is why I don't consider him a center, but a larger Durant). How well he can hold up (see: Chet) and how his skills will translate remains to be seen.
I wouldn't call it an off-game. An off game would be a game where things don't go your way and you don't perform well. This is a structural problem. His confidence is gone and he is not motivated. I can't imagine the tension between him and Silas off the court. This is on top of proving himself despite all the short leash and pressure. He finally had the chance to be the hub for a stretch of 8-10 games, he delivered perfectly and still the team went away from that in favor of using Nix, Tyty(who should actually be doing this from long ago) and Tate as the facilitators. And then he started having bad games, partly due to the team going away from senhub and partly on himself. and then the latest unfolding of events. At this point, I think this is how the rest of the season will look like for him. And I wouldn't take it as an indicator for future performance.
Unfortunately, you are right, @AlperenSengun More than anything, this team needs a new coaching staff for next season.
As for the franchise player discussion, I think of very few players at 20 as franchise players and Sengun is not one of them. It would not be a good idea to go all in with sengun and plan the whole future to maximize his talents. But it was even more stupid not to try to utilize him fully, give him more independence, let him use his creativity on offense. I think rockets should view him as a potentially very rare to find piece which can be an integral part of a championship team or that can be traded for one depending on how things develop. For both trajectories the smart thing to do is to develop him as much as you can.
I honestly don’t even view him as roughly the same as Jokic up to this point Nuggets in Jokic’s 2nd season had the 4th best offense in the league, and the best offense in the league post-ASB when they really started playing through him…and that roster was pretty bad Jokic and Sengun might have a similar stat line in year 2, but one was clearly much better than the other and I agree that someone like Jokic is a developmental outlier
source is my eyes and brain if u want to believe that Sengun is in the realm of Wemby as a prospect, then
lmao if u took that Jabari post seriously…I guess sarcasm is lost on u the guy who I actually thought would be the best is Chet, but he has yet to play
Hopefully Wemby will not have similar injury struggles as Chet and Ralph Sampson. Since we are always talking about archetypes who did or did not do something - very few players that height and body type managed to have a relatively injury-free NBA career.
Hating on Wemby bc you’re in love with Sengun lol. You don’t want anyone else to be the franchise player. Why can’t you think about the rockets first?
How is saying I hope he will avoid injury "hating on Wemby"? You really need to check yourself. Also, you should look a few posts up. https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/...franchise-player.318379/page-91#post-14529315
