At one point Chris Evans was part of two comic book franchises under similar umbrellas. If he could make it through that unscathed, Majors will be fine.

Hell, he gets to play a different version of the same character in who knows how many movies coming up…

I would put Majors in a category with someone like Daniel Day Lewis where hes just so intense and expressive (and a litte quirky) that you can only consume him in limited quantities, like really, really dark chocolate. Have you ever tried to eat 3 bars of 88% caccao in a row? Its more for savoring.

By comparison, Chris Evans is a box of Twinkies, where you can eat the whole box without realizing it. The quality of Majors' acting makes him better, but the bland insipid sweetness of Twinkies means you can consume many more in one sitting. Majors is an actor, Evans is a movie star. Majors is a 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Evans is a 12 pack of Natty Light.

Thats the metaphor im going to go with. I appreciate i may be the only person who feels this way.

Sounds good to me… although I prefer all my dark chocolate at 92% or higher.

There’s concern the latest “Ant-Man” extends a potentially worrying trend for Marvel. Though “Quantumania” endured the steepest fall, it’s not the only recent MCU movie to witness a substantial drop in its second weekend. Pandemic-era entries, including “Black Widow” (67.8%), “Thor: Love and Thunder” (67.6%), “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (67.5%) and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (67%), suffered similar declines.

Yet those movies — with the exception of “Black Widow,” which was released day-and-date on Disney Plus — earned at least $760 million and as much as $955 million by the end of their theatrical runs. There’s an argument that Marvel hasn’t been appealing beyond its target audience, but that target audience sure is dependable. No other franchise, dozens of films in, has managed to come close to that kind of consistency.

“The loyal fans are going to show up no matter what,” Robbins says. “The increasingly front-loaded nature and, occasionally divisive reception, of some of their recent films might not necessarily be worrying to the brand overall as long as the core fanbase remains.”

For that reason, analysts prefer to measure the film’s success by its lifetime total — and the third “Ant-Man” installment is expected to improve upon its predecessors. So far, “Quantumania” has grossed $167 million in North America and $364 million globally after just two weeks in theaters. (Need proof that Marvel is operating on another level than its rivals? By next weekend, “Quantumania” will overtake the lifetime tally of Dwayne Johnson’s DC comic book installment “Black Adam,” which left theaters with $392 million.)

By comparison, the first standalone adventure, 2015’s “Ant-Man,” opened to $57 million in North America and tapped out with $180 million domestically and $519 million globally. The 2018 sequel “Ant-Man and the Wasp” opened to $76 million in North America and ended up grossing $216 million domestically and $622 million globally. Based on its debut, “Quantumania” could end up with roughly $240 million domestically, sources estimate, though they say it’s too soon to predict the global total.

“The opening weekend number was a big step up from ‘Ant-Man 2,’ so we know the fanbase is still excited,” says David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research. “I’d be surprised if it meant anything long term or serious in terms of the quality of the Marvel brand.”

It’s worth reminding the skeptics that not every Marvel movie is created equally. Ant-Man has never been as mighty, at least at the box office, as its Avenger contemporaries. At the same time, future installments (no matter how beloved) will struggle to ever compete with a behemoth like “Avengers: Endgame.” So while there’s understandable concern the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which now spans television in addition to film, will eventually oversaturate the marketplace, analysts aren’t sure the less enthusiastic reception of “Quantumania” will impact the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in May or “The Marvels” in November.

“You aren’t going to always get a grand slam,” says Bock. “But Marvel is hitting more home runs than anyone.”

Was really looking forward to this..... but then saw the reviews/responses of the people whose opinion I trust. I'm just really tired of the MCU movie formula..... It's not "wokism", it's trying to appeal to everyone in order to capture the largest audience and it's just not working anymore.

Even though we all knew they weren't all permanently dead.... Infinity War really felt like a non cookie cutter story where the good guys actually fail and lose. I've already spoiled the plot and post credit scenes via youtube but seems like this would have been one of those times to set the stage/phase with a major shake up.

    You need receipts?!?!?!

This is probably my favorite movie/tv reviewer and to be clear he didn't trash it:

Just sounded like the same ole MCU, which isn't a positive at this point. I will most definitely watch it at some point but I already know the plot and have spoilered it for myself.

This probably one of the harsher takes among the channels I watch:

    I actually really enjoyed this.

I was fine with MODOK, all the troll stuff. I thought they should have gone complete troll honestly. I was pretty tripped out watching this, and not upset about it at all. Didn't like the ending and liked it even less when I see that the original ending was supposed to have the post-credits trying to bring them back. Kang overall as a super villain in the Thanos mold just bothers me. Idk if it's the actor. Idk what it is. I can't take him seriously. His face bothers me. I feel like his face needs to meet the business end of a bullet train. Maybe an industrial metal grinder. Either way.

Ezra is also white or white passing. They are going to come down hard On Majors if it's true.. or even if it's not true.. Remember Nate Parker? that guy was another up and comer and he got yeeted from Hollywood for something similar

I wonder what this will do to Marvel.

I dont know what he is that's why I put that caveat in there. A lot people out here look white and show up at the NAACP and ALMA Awards.

he shouldn't, but he will . that's the point. The damage is done. It's not fair out there in Hollywood. Angela Bassett got snubbed for an Oscar.

What happened to Nate Parker was an absolute travesty.

this would be a regular Tuesday for Ezra

    we’ll see if it’s true

Marvel would just recast him, no?
