Reminds me of my first and only visit to Europe, I met some people who were doing a semester abroad and there was a black kid in the group. We would try to go to bars/restaurants/clubs and they would straight up tell you right at the door "sorry, no blacks allowed. The rest of you can come in, but he can't come in, we don't want blacks in here." Caught me off guard because you can't say that **** in America, even if the sentiment is there, they'll say something like "sorry we don't have any tables..." or whatever, like you said, people are rarely up front about it here.
