Whitly definitely seems to be fooling them. Some awkward swings here in the 2nd inning.

Good to hear, I suppose, because the GameDay tracker keeps showing him throwing pitches center-center, which is dangerous.

His offspeed stuff seems to be pretty effective. His fastball placement hasn't been great and is the pitch they have gotten the best swings off. But obviously the normal small sample size caveat.

I'm watching it on a tiny phone at work, so it is tough to tell. If they have a radar gun on them it didn't seem like they were putting the numbers on the broadcast. I will say his FB didn't look particularly fast, but naked eye is a pretty poor way to judge for that.

I caught the second inning too, didn’t get any numbers on the velocity but it didn’t seem like the hitters were late at all on it. Seems like he was a guy like McCullers that had 100 in high school but now sits 93-95

His command for everything was not great but it's the first outing of the spring. Seems like he maybe was able to get away with overpowering lower minors with his pure stuff, but upper level players he has to have stuff and location. Looks like a potential bullpen guy if he's not ever able to get command of his pitches

What position does Dirden usually play in the minors?

Beautiful lefty swing, compact to the ball and launched the absolute piss out of it. Was very Brantley esq

He's a utility outfielder that played a roughly equal number of games at each position. I don't think he's a plus defender so I think he will probably play left or right in the majors.

He looks like a guy that would get punched in the face in a 80's comedy.

Might be reaching but don’t like him saying his pitches were good he should’ve just thrown a different one. Seems like he’s calling out Maldys game calling, but might be grasping. Getting a bit of Odorizzi vibes from him.

Nice to see Yainer Diaz throw out a runner at second today. He looked good receiving the ball and blocking a ball in the dirt with a runner on base.

It is ST. The game planning is very vanilla if existant at all. He's throwing to throw pitches.

He really does. He also reminds me of Patrick Bateman.
