I've been saying that his shooting struggle is 100% mental. It has little to do with NBA 3pt distance or defense. Something needs to be changed to snap him out of this funk.
smith playing awful for several weeks now. Just awful. Lazy defense. Forcing dribble drive to the rim and not taking open shots. Should let game come to him and take what defense gives him.
An offensive system, shooting coach and cut back his playing time he will look like the player we were all hoping for. A Silas departure.
If Jabari can’t shoot, he’s not an NBA player simple as that. It’s not about development, he simply doesn’t have the other tools that you can’t learn: no vertical, no fast twitch anything, stiff hips, poor hands, limited coordination, no feel. If he can shoot it he’ll be a good role player. Move him to the bench now, give him a chance to get his shot right over the off-season and with a new coach. If the shot isn’t there by mid season next year, cut bait.
Can we stop blaming Silas for his problems? Sure, he might look better in a more functioning system but a good coach is not going to cover up his glaring lack of offensive ability. The guy is so one dimensional and his single strength of a nice jumpshot is not even present right now.
Our resident Rockets expert @Mathloom said he’s the next KG with better shooting. Yes, that Kevin Garnett. Lmfaoooo
Sure but a coach should protect his players. Not watch them suffer. Force playing time on him has got to be crushing him. Silas sees and doesn’t do anything to help Smith out at all. It’s got to overwhelming. It’s beyond messed up.
I think the reports about him wanting be picked up by OKC is a sign for the media to pressure him out of Houston. Silas was a fool to add more fuel to it.
I'd be very careful about taking a dump on JG, Jabari or Sengun, or any of our young guys, under this coaching staff.
Man people really don't know how hard it is for young players to play in a trash offensive system and on a trash team. No doubt if Bari was even on hte Lakers, he'd like 5x better. If he were in Boston, Memphis, Utah, he'd look a crap ton better. This team is tanking and tanking hard. There is no talent on the floor, there are no players out there that make the game easier for everyone around them. That's what great players do, they make the game easier for those around them. That's how role players got paid playing with Harden. That's why anyone on Denver looks good or decent. This team is devoid of talent and leadership. Everyone hard focus on Jabari as if anyone on this team is playing at an even average level consistency. When this team improves the depth of their roster, adds leadership, gets a true all-star player we're going to see a lot of guys we are down about going to look a lot better. Markkenen and Fox looked like busts too...until oh lo and behold they got put on better teams. Nothing is easy for any of these young guys. If they get hot, the defense just adjusts to humble them or Silas for some odd reason sits them. Numerous games where Jabari would come out, hit a couple of shots...on the bench he goes.
I chuckle every time he gets bodied out of the way by a guard at the rim. There’s 3 & D. And then there’s Jabari: & .
He is heat checking too often, has to stop doing that. He has to do that because his post game is pedestrian at best. He misses layups and Sengun has to save it.
