And when they traded for Jimmy G, he was a promising 25 yr old with upside not some 32 year old stop gap qb. Kyle was confident. He didn't care about this imaginary timeline of when to or not to take a leap on your qb.
Problem is if you pick a QB in a QB class that you dont really like then your franchise will suffer the consequences of poor decision making. Now if you like this QB class then that's a different story.
Has someone in the Texans organization said they don’t like any of the QBs in this class? Since their jobs depend on it, you wouldn’t think they would select any player, especially QB, they didn’t think could do the job. Therefore, if they select a QB in the first round, I will have to assume they really liked him.
Get your point. You would hope Demeco has some input. Him being a defensive guy they might go that direction.
No, it doesn't. Unless you're willing to mortgage the future next year. If these guys end up as good as people think they are, they're going one and two. If you sign a vet, let's say you end up picking between 15 and 20 in a best case scenario. Both picks are likely after 15. If and that's a big IF (remembering in this scenario that these guys are really good prospects), one of the top two teams are willing to trade, then you're now trading the rest of the Browns picks and multiple picks of ours to get a guy. If you're really going to suggest this scenario, you need to ask yourself if the third and fourth rated QBs are better than the top 2 QBs on your board this year, because that's the more likely scenario - while still possibly trading up. In my opinion, it's not worth it. Not only are you still taking a risk (any QB selection is), but you're now depriving yourself if multiple young players on a te that needs talent anywhere and everywhere. And you're now spending decent free agency money on a position that is somewhat a luxury, technically. Now throw in what happens if you get a top 2 pick next year (because you're starting a young guy) and don't want to draft Harrison Jr. You can get multiple picks in a trade up. Which further accelerates the rebuild. This is why this scenario is terrible.
...and how'd that trade work out for them? Think they'd do it again? LMAO. They course corrected quickly after getting burned by Trey Lance. 7th round pick Brock Purdy took them to the NFC championship game. Plug and play QB got them to a level the Texans have never sniffed. Take note.
Bryce Young has the 5th best arm strength among top prospects. Why is he even in the conversation for the #2 overall pick? He's too small to play QB and he doesn't have enough arm strength. Just one of these flaws is disqualifying when selecting at #2 overall. Having both flaws is just a conversation ender.
If they make an offer to Baby Carr, sure. 32 year old Jimmy who can't play all season No. Brisset. no. I do like this draft class. And I also like how Nick drafts. Free agency strategy, not so much.
Next year's class has been the better class every year since 1983...Lol. Sometimes it's true, and sometimes it's just hope. This method of trying to be average one season, then draft "an amazing QB prospect the next" has almost never worked out without giving up a GANG of draft capital. Caleb Williams could very well be one of the best prospects we've seen in some time, but we'd have to have the #1 pick almost assuredly to get him. No thanks again.
Good lord I think I have typed up some version of this a bunch of times.. it’s so spot on. And it’s just different views on size of risk I say. Young at 2 not panning out is less of a risk than Caleb Williams not panning out for 3 first rounders…
Like I said, you like this QB class a lot more than I do. Also I dont see them winning more than 5-6 games next yr. It's the reason I kind want them to sign Jimmy G, if he gets hurt, which he probably will then they will have a high pick next year. If everything goes like you think it will then Ryans will have to make a 49ers type trade. That's preferable to me over picking a QB in this years draft. You like this years class and I understand this. I dont and I hope you understand how much I really dont like this QB class. If they pick a QB I will root for the new QB and hope I'm wrong.
