But MLB/Manfred do care. The fans like us that post on message boards aren't going to stop watching so we don't matter in their rule change decisions but they may gain more casuals.

Just wait for the commercials to be introduced. They'll get long again.

Bregman's gotta love that, right? He's two years younger than Manny, and even though he might be a tick below him in terms of power/fielding, that's a strong comp with respect to AAV.

Yep. He will be the same age as Machado is right now when he hits FA. I have to think with 3 more years like his last 1 or 2 he’d be looking for 10/275 or something.

What's funny is there was a rule that required pitchers to throw pitches within 12 seconds with no one on prior to this rule change. MLB was lenient with enforcement and gave players every opportunity to follow the rules. The players didn't. Instead of implementing this rule sporadically, MLB added the pitch clock to remove ambiguity to implement the intent of existing rules and even even gave pitchers an additional 3 seconds.

I kinda like the pitch clock, definitely makes the games more engaging. Would like the idea of turning it off after the 7th inning, feel like we’ll lose a little bit of the slowing down of the moment… which might be the whole intent of the rule

I was thinking about this as well, bases loaded, late innings, maybe they'll tweak it after this season.

FYI, for those curious to see how Whitley looks tomorrow against the Marlins, MLB will air the game at 5 am Tuesday morning.

Conversely which batters who have ridiculous rituals in the batters box are going to be affected most by this clock?

I’d say none of them. They’ll get new rituals. Tucker already stated that he can’t rub his hands with new dirt every single time anymore.

Batters didn’t used to be this egregious with stepping out of the box in the 80’s-90’s.

Over 400 batters and not a single one of them.

    Hmmmm....

They don’t all have crazy pre-bat rituals though. Yordan and a lot of younger players developed after they tried to cut down on a lot of this stuff in the minors.

Not saying there won’t be infractions… I just think there won’t be much effect on career hitting numbers (especially when you factor in no shifts).

Meanwhile, pitchers tend to slow down and get more deliberate when there’s traffic on the basepaths or the game situation gets more tense. Can’t do that anymore.

Hopefully MLB changes 'runs' to points. And makes every 'run' worth 5 points. For the culture!

Their needs to be a happy medium to the way things were and now. Feels way too rushed now...feels like the batters, pitchers, and audience barely have time to catch a breath. Too many changes all at once and it should've been introduced incrementally.

I am really glad they did it all at once so people can get their b@#$5ing in all at once. I'm not a fan of the zombie runners and the no shift. Bigger bases shouldn't matter too much. Throw over rule and pitch clock kind of go together.

Electronic strike zone is part of this package of changes but that doesn't start until next year.
