the Houston economy is pretty diverse, same with Dallas…it’s not just all about oil and gas

can’t really say the same for the rest of the middle of nowhere places in TX

Isn’t it only NYC that has more Fortune 500 companies than Houston?

What are the elderly people gonna do when GOP nation does away with their SS and Medicare?

Hell, would there be any healthcare there whatsoever?

How many doctors and healthcare workers would even wanna stay there? They are constantly attacked, ridiculed, and undermined. Perform an abortion and you would get jail time.

teachers have any number of books on their shelves, and it could be a felony like in Florida…school system would be pure sh*t because I bet most teachers aren’t staying there if given a choice

Ignoring the impracticality of dividing regions into rural and non-rural areas, during the Civil War, the Confederacy was primarily an agriculture center, yet by the end of the conflict, they were on the brink of starvation, while the Union remained well-fed. In today's world of international trade, wealth and access to resources are more crucial than mere land ownership. Non-rural areas can rely on imports for what they cannot produce locally.

Yes I made that point earlier. Even accepting that rural areas produce most of the food as long as urban areas control most of the economy they still likely wouldn’t be starved out in a new civil war. Certainly Canada and other countries would be willing to sell food to blue areas. Without sufficient population it would be hard for rural areas to maintain a blockade of urban areas.

Take MN for example. If a civil war were to break out several rural counties of Mn would likely side with the new Confederacy while the Twin Cities would be with the new Union. The Twin Cities have more than 2/3rd if the population of the whole state. It has the major international airport and the main National Guard air base along with most of the economic base. Even though per capita more rural Minnesotans have guns than people in the Twin Cities there just isnt enough people in those areas to both encircle the Twin Cities and also prevent an air lift.

Any idea MTG comes up with is just to stir up division and hate. There isn't gonna be a Civil War or secession. She's just rallying up the right wing gun toting nutjobs as usual. MTG is just a typical white trash big mouth of the new generation of right wing GOP brown shirt propaganda spewing Americans.

How much of Dallas is due to the FED, how much of Houston is due to the Feds?

She is advocating for maximum state rights and a weak federal government, which could lead to even the possibility of slavery once again if individual states choose to allow it. When you hear this type of rhetoric, which is becoming more common within the Republican Party, it's important to remember that it hearkens back to a time when there was little protection for minorities, including women, and only benefited white men. This is part of the Christian nationalism movement, which is largely a rebranding of white supremacy since the late 20th century.

Pros: Blue America drops all those freeloading red states.

Cons: Blue America will have terrible college football.

Well it would be amusing to see what would happen to the many of the strongest conservative states like W VA and the old Confederate states are miserably poor and receive much more federal tax revenues than they pay.

Look no further than how the UK conservatives are dealing with the cluster**** that is Brexit.

Or the state of Kansas that went full-on supplyside economics, another cluster****.

“Yes, there is some short term pain, but it will be worth the gain, conservative utopia.”

This would be amazing - could you imagine the tax windfall for blue states? Red states budgets would be gutted, their cities screwed but blue states would have so much more money.
