I assume the reasoning behind not doing something like that is there is no option to make a counterpoint. The process as is does give teams incentive to come to a deal if they want to keep the player long-term.

There’s only about a 2mph difference between Dubon’s exit velo and Altuve’s. If 15 pounds of muscle can close that gap then Dubon could be a breakout player. A guy who only struck out 11% of the time and plays solid defense at SS, 2B, 3B, and CF who can run into more power could be very valuable.

Altuve is very much an outlier in terms of overall quality of hitter for his EVs.

Here are the rounded career EVs for Houston’s lineup:
    Altuve 87
    Pena 88
    Abreu 91
    Bregman 89
    Tucker 91
    McCormick 89
    Alvarez 94
    Brantley 89
    Maldy 87

Dubon is at 85. I don’t know what’s reasonable in terms of how much a skinny dude like Dubon can increase his EV by bulking up. But it looks like if he can get into the 88-89 range it would result in a meaningful increase in his offensive production.

    Maybe it makes no difference

Look at Pena's arms- he should hit the ball 150 mph

And if he hit it 150 mph that would mean he also should have a 1.000 OPS

Now Dubon is fat and slow. Great!

    Momentum = mass * velocity

Hitting a ball with more mass and the same velocity means the ball goes further.

80 mph or 100 mph if it's hit at a fielder it's an out

Dubon is Bill Obriens wet dream. Can play a ton of positions but none of them well.

Huh? He’s the best defensive CF on the team. There’s a reason McCormick moves to left when Dubon comes in as a defensive upgrade.

....no he's not, he is worse than Chaz and Meyers.

He's not terrible out there, but the comes in as a defensive replacement because Dusty needs an excuse to play him. He has a prior relationship with Dubon and has shown him preferential treatment which he will do on occasion.

I'm sure Click regretted picking him up the first time he saw him out there regularly.
