[NY Post] Hard-up Russia pushes to replenish sagging Viagra supply

Vladimir Putin’s red army is scurrying to find a replacement for the little blue pill.

Shipments of Viagra to Russia were halted by Viatris — the Pennsylvania-based maker of the erectile dysfunction drug — shortly after Putin’s hard-headed invasion of Ukraine last year.

The Kremlin said Wednesday it will turn inward to produce the generic version to replenish its sagging supply.

"The drug with the trade name ‘Viagra’ corresponds to the international non-proprietary name (INN) sildenafil and is not produced on the territory of Russia,” Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry said in a statement to state-run news service TASS.

The ministry added that Russia has the “technology capability” to manufacture sildenafil. A total of 36 Russia-based companies have the “registration certificates” required to produce the pills.

Viagra’s market share in Russia had plunged by 22% in volume year-over-year, according to data released in November by Russian analytics firm DSM Group and cited by the Washington Post.

Is Blackrock really the next KBR/Halliburton? A lot of people will be getting very rich off this war. I wont be the least bit surprise in 20 years the future Ukrainian government will kick the US out and be more pro-Russian. Americans are not rebuilding Ukraine for the Ukrainians ... they are building it for themselves.

Funny title. Couldn't they scrounge up Indian generics or knock offs for that?

Sound logic. Who would Ukraine be friends with?

    1. Those Americans who provided us billions in weapons to defend us but are only rebuilding our country selfishly.

    OR

    2. The guys who destroyed our country, kidnapped our children, raped our women, and killed tens of thousands of our men, committed endless war crimes, etc.

Similar to how West Germany and Japan ran to the Russians and the Iron Curtain after WW2, since we were rebuilding it selflishly? And how Kuwait decided to be friends with Saddam instead of the US? And how Bosnia turned on us? Or how South Korea ran into North Korea and China's arms?

We weren't on the winning side in Vietnam. I guess I should have put caveats there. If Russia wins and takes over Ukraine and/or installs a puppet government, I'll agree with Space Ghost that Ukraine will get closer to Russia. That seemed pretty obvious to me. But in that scenario, we're not rebuilding it selfishly for our own purposes either.

"Closer?" Like Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and other countries formerly occupied by the Soviet Union's military for decades after World War Two grew closer? Countries that are all sending Ukraine as much military and financial aid as they can manage to help that country fight off it's brutal invasion by Russia? That kind of closer?

With all due respect, don't be ridiculous. When the former Czechoslovakia and Hungary attempted to free themselves from Soviet domination, those revolts were brutally put down by the Soviet leadership and it's armed forces. Those days are well remembered. Little Estonia, right up against the Russian border, has sent Ukraine hundreds of millions of dollars in military equipment and other aid, risking their own safety to do so, depending on NATO's umbrella, because they remember.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. SG was talking about the Ukraine government being closer to Russia. If Russia installs a puppet government in Ukraine, it will have closer ties to Russia than the US.

I think you've conflated (puppet) governments with (free) peoples.

I read your post, not his. Of course a "puppet government" would be "closer" to Putin's Russia. A very large majority of the people of Ukraine would not.

You should discuss that with SG, who made the claim that I responded to.

That's my point. A Russia-installed puppet government is the only scenario where Space Ghost's dream fantasy of the US being the greedy evil bad guy that Ukraine throws out comes true. But in that scenario, the US isn't the one rebuilding Ukraine.
