Maldy is really good. If he was that bad, the Astros wouldn't have traded for Christian Vazquez and still started Maldy over him.

Most athletes have a level of arrogance. They need it to be the top .00001% at their sport.

Is 1 extra hit every 4-5 games worth giving up the catcher that helped the best pitching staff in the MLB?

Needed Dana Brown around after Kyle Tucker’s first breakout season in 2021. Brown would’ve extended him with that Braves special.

Now, it’s probably too late. Tucker knows he can get 300M somewhere else.

Tucker has 3 full seasons left here. 2 additional off-seasons to work things out... and that's presuming he isn't opposed to negotiating during the season.

Unlike Springer, the Astros didn't mess around with his promotion... and unlike Correa/Springer/Bregman, he seems to have avoided the overuse injuries that caused all of those guys to miss time. There's still a lot that can happen with his career arc, but he certainly seems to fit the bill of an Astros extension candidate (not to mention that there's not much money tied up 3 years from now).

I know the usual Houston fan expectation is that all players want to leave.... but the Astros still have exclusive negotiating rights for quite some time. To put it in perspective, nobody was clamoring for a Springer extension going into 2018 (or already announcing "he's out of here!"). That's where Tucker is on the current timeline.

I don’t think so on Minny. Correa allegedly thought he was getting a deal done with Houston and Crane ghosted him over the opt outs.

that's why we need 6 man rotation cause there'll always be injuries and someone who's very injury prone like LM

I said from the get go that LMJ extension was stupid. I was called a fool on here for saying it.

Does Lance McCullers pitch over or under 125 innings this year?

Maldy got the chip on the shoulder eh? Alright...I'm going with the "over" on 20 homeruns and "over" on .220 BA.

He's a $30MM pitcher on a $17MM extension. The injuries were already factored into his contract.

LMJ always misses time eventually. I wish he didn't but I, and I'm sure the front office did as well, never anticipated 30 starts and 175 innings.

Even if he wasn't hurting in camp, at this point the logical thing to do is manage his innings for a 125 inning season. If he performs at his normal level for only 2/3 of a season he still justifies his contract.

I wonder where LMJ is on the all-time postseason innings pitched list? Top 30?

Baseball reference only lists Top 10, but I noticed this on the Postseason Leaderboard while seeing if I could find the answer to my question... Screenshot_20230219-094509_Chrome.jpg

McCullers is not capable of a full season workload and his regular season production has been fairly mid, outside of 2021.

But he's a guy who you absolutely want as part of a postseason rotation. And as long as the Astros have the pitching depth to carry us that far, he's worth the investment based on that postseason experience and results.
