What gives you most reason for optimism as a Rockets fan (Feb. 2023)?

We are a capable PG and better coach away from making a sizable jump. Everyone is crazy young, and guys like Jalen and Jabari need a PG who can get them the ball in the right spots, as well as create for them (mainly Jabari).

- If we get Scoot, then great. You have a high-USG potential superstar PG who can work with our current core well (though the fit w Sengun might be less seamless)
- If we get Wemby, then great. You got a legit Franchise player, and make moves from there, namely trading for/signing a legitimate starting PG.
- If we miss out on both, then that sucks, but we still get a Top-5 talent added to a team with lots of young talent. Make a move for a PG, maybe a veteran in this case.

 

3x seasons finishing bottom is reminiscent of the sh$t show of the Kings in years gone by.
My optimism is dwindling fast and nothing will change until we bring in a new coach.
I'm done and fed up with Silas. We're wasting time with him and the lack of development.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't even have our own pick in the next draft. So what's the purpose of 'tanking for Wemby'. Clearly we are far from even being half decent.

I know the Cavs tried that with David Blatt, but I can't think of any other foreign coach that made the jump to the NBA.

EDIT: Blatt is an American Jew who coached in Israel, not an Israeli who made his way to the states, my mistake.

 

A game plan other than just showing up in uniforms will be the biggest help.

 

What gives me the most optimism is the fact we still have levers to pull even if we don't on the first and second pick. Then we get to do what the other faction of the GARM wanted to do in the first place, churn through assets and be competitive in order to climb up the asset tree. Hopefully if this happens, our 3 high draft picks increase the value of our war chest and eases the climb. Making some trades aren't just necessary for acquiring talent but consolidating it as we will have way too many recent draft picks by the time the offseason is over.

 

Interesting! I wonder if his situational awareness, which is excellent, compensates for some of his physical limits.

Happy to have more reasons to love Sengun. I find him a lot of fun to watch, even in losses.
