Nothing here actually is persuasive. There is no analysis. Nothing just "I'm right, and it must hurt your feelings that you are wrong". Go beyond that. Give me a reason besides your claim that his situation around him doesn't greatly help his production and effectiveness? I at least show something when I make my claims.
i think the biggest issue with the franchise is that hedge lord doesn't fully commit on the folks he drafted. if we drafted green and smith instead of having a veteran pg to make life easier for them, we choose to focus on letting kpj, a guy who has never play pg/playmake to b the guy who controls the offense. We gave a sht ton of mins to nix, wood, gordon, mathews, etc when we should b giving mins to our first round picks. Sengun took forever to b utilized. JC is glued to the bench. Smart to not invest everything into one player, but the progress is a lot slower. Even now hedge lord signs kpj to a team friendly contract, b/c he's not confident in the kpj pg experiment either. Folks like to say mobley is the superior player, but if mobley was drafted he wouldn't b the batman and he would not look as hot here either. Bad coach, no pg, defensive discipline is lackin, etc.
Not sure what people expected. This takes time and it was always going to be a rough watch. Regardless of what people think now, we are actually in very good shape going forward.
And I'm sure having a roster with 0 guys with more than 3 years of NBA experience vs having 5 guys on the Cavs regular rotation with more than 3 years of experience but guys like Love and Rubio in practice sessions and being with the team has no effect on young player effectiveness and development. None at all.
Of course being in a good situation helps. He's part of what makes it a good situation though. You said he'd look like Jabari Smith here which is ridiculous and not based on anything. "Go beyond that." You're just throwing out a hypothetical based on literally nothing. There is no GM In the league who would trade Mobley for Jabari, or Green or KPJ or all three together. Except the GMs on this message board.
No I do agree with your point that the roster here is trash and was assembled ridiculously poorly, regardless of trying to win. This roster is horrible for developmental purposes and makes it worse for a guy like Green who needed to be around pros.
I hate to break it to you, but the only fans paying attention to the team at this point are die-hards. If the franchise turns it around the casuals will come back and have no idea about any of the current fan division. Most sports fans in Houston are counting down the days until Astros opening day and the Cougars' March Madness appearance. As they say, winning cures everything.
No he isn't part of what made it a good situation. Thw roster he joined made it a good situation. Having an up and coming elite playamking pg and having one of the most high IQ defensive big men in the league to tag along with is what made it a good situation. Adding Mitchel made it even a better situation the season after. Let's actually think for a second here. Mobley's effectiveness and the credit he receives only happens on a winning team right? No one would care about his defensive impact on the worst team in the NBA record wise. I doubt you believe Mobley would add much more in the wins department for this roster. You would be off your rockers if you thought that. Now let's examine the fact that this franchise basically did a big "reset". That means usually the first piece a team looks for is their primary offensive option. Drafting Mobley and increasing our defensive rating marginally while still losing and not having any go to scoring threat that the franchise can be excited about would be even more depressing. Mobley isn't generating any offense of his own. His rate of self creation is the same as God damn Rudy Golbert. In fact its lower than Rudy Golbert when Rudy was younger. So essentially for the first ever core piece this team drafts as their first blue chip player would essentially be a Rudy Golbert mold of a player.
Or the draft. You are so right though. I don't know a single person (outside of people I've come to know through this site or twitter) who is watching a second of the Rockets.
1) Self creation is not the only measure of whether a player is good 2) Do you watch the Cavs play or just looking at stats? Mobley has an elite feel for the game. That would be an obvious thing regardless of the situation. One of my big complaints about the way this team was put together is that not having veterans leads to young guys not learning how to run a system the right way, being in the right spots, knowing where a pass is going to be, etc. Mobley has a natural feel for that. 3) You used Rudy Gobert to try to be dismissive, but Mobley doesn't play d like Rudy. He's not stuck in the paint and unable to defend if you bring him out.
I hear you. My point was in fact about the die hards HERE more than any other space. You dont see casuals wading through the toxicity of game threads. Love the Stros and root for them, but baseball is not a passion of mine. Coogs are fun for sure! My focus is this place and how it turned into what I used to despise about other fanbases and always held our group in high regard. Sucks to see the downward spiral in real time. Surreal to see notable contributors on each side of an imaginary line ready to go into Civil War.
Does Mobley have a natural feel for that or is elite pg play and elite high IQ defensive vet bigs around Mobley providing you with a perception that he "has the feel for the game". He is a roll man on offense. That's his feel for the game. You are expressing two competing narratives here. Green looks like he "doesn't have the feel" while acknowledging this team has no vet support and saying Mobley "has the feel" in a team chalk full of elite vets.
he definitely doesn't watch Mobley on a regular basis. His takes are based on assumptions that he's another Capela, which is obviously far from reality
If we're limiting ourselves to discussing only how they score their buckets then this is pointless. You want to eliminate too much of how you evaluate basketball players.
Oh you are so right.... Given context of course. Self creation on the Cavs? Not important at all. You got Mitchel and Garland for that. That team doesn't need Mobley to be a self creator for that team to be elite because again, it's a well built roster with good vet presence and elite pg play that's ready to win games and playoff series now. On the rebuilding Rockets, where the franchise is looking for their number one option after Harden left and the roster ris entirely gutted with little talent and vet depth? Self creation is everything. Mobley is a great 3rd piece to draft on a team ready to compete. Green is a piece we hope develops to a 1 or 2 option on a offense. Right now he's looking closer to a second option but so did guys like Booker and Kobe when they were in their second year.
Its all how you look at it. Glass half full: we have a lot of young, cheap rotation players Half empty: none of them appear to be transcendent
