There’s not really a discrepancy here, Stroud had more talent around him than any team he faced. Big10 is weak overall, and against the “good” teams in the Big10 he either lost or was ineffective. His Georgia game was elite, but it’s one game. Not going to change who is from one hot game
Ok, but I would say, in terms of surrounding talent: Stroud . . Young . . Maye/Levis and in terms of talent on opposing teams: Young . . . . . Stroud . Maye/Levis. So by my extremely technical and sound numbers here as you can see, Young > All of them.
Sound logic lol. Young is a stud. I wouldn’t be mad if we drafted him. I do think Maye is going to be better and has a high floor. Levis has upside but is more likely to bust.
NO...he didn't. LOL. You are so ****ing clueless...it is laughable. The MFer lost to GEORGIA TECH and looked bad doing it. He lost his last 4 games and in 3 of them looked bad.
Lies. Flat out lies. One game he looked bad, another he was out matched. The other two were solid games. Stroud looked like dog **** against Northwestern, Michigan and pedestrian against Maryland and Rutgers. But in your mind he won so it doesn’t matter, never mind the overwhelming talent gap. Big10 is too heavy and the top 2/3 teams beat up on chunps.
Meh, but what if Texans FO is not sold on the QBs in this draft and some other team wants to trade up to #1? You can take a punt on a bridge QB this year and keep your draft picks and mount an attack next year for one of the top QBs. You definitely do not want to blow your advantage this year. Besides, Will Anderson ED has to be a very attractive candidate and will be there as the #1 pick is likely going to be a QB.
Its wild for so many of our fans to just gloss over the fact that our defense is historically bad. With good coaching our current offense would be better as-is. Not the case for the defense. Going QB/WR with the top 2 picks will guarantee another top 3 pick next season when the defense cant seem to stop a high school team. Thinking you can add the same type of defensive game changers in round 2 or later is way too convenient. I dont really care if its Anderson or Carter with pick 2. Either one would help immensely and I'd double down with another defender at 12. Doing that could possibly give you enough of a talent influx where the coaching could take that unit and make them respectable.
Really want Carter. Great Interior defensive guys free up mediocre to above average edge rushers to excel. Carter at 1-2, please. Center via FA. After the first pick, I have no problem going with a stud WR or CB. There are abundance of really good TE’s in this draft at the top of the second. My wishes: Carter 1.2 WR 1.12 TE 2.33 BPA rest of draft I’m rolling with either Mills or cheap vet at QB FA: as advised by draft Center Edge LB Other OL depth
Thats fair, but you need to have a semblance of skill on the edge. Who is that guy for us? Greenard? Okoronkwo? Jerry Hughes? I think Carter is bonafide, but he will need help. If Carter is the guy at 2 I'd be looking at edge at 12 with Wilson if he drops as my preference followed by Van Ness and Murphy. I think you can find good WRs/TEs/OL in later rounds this year and I'd be in on guys like Hyatt or Boutte with that 2nd rounder. Maybe the team signs one of the stud DTs on the free agent market? Then you have the freedom to take Anderson and then BPA from there on out.
You also need to think long-term though. Texans are in a prime position to take a top QB this year. If we take a defensive stud at #2 and the offensive naturally shows improvement under new coaching, are we really in a position to land Williams or Maye next year without departing with significant drat capital? I think people are also overlooking how much cap space the Texans are working with over the next few years - much easier to plugin holes on the defensive side in free agency than just hope for a franchise QB somehow landing in our lap. We already have a solid secondary, and the defensive coaching is set to see a massive upgrade. Stingley/Pitre/Harris should all show improvement next year. We really think the defense can't show significant improvement without spending a top-12 pick? We are picking five times in the top 73. I think the only reason you don't take a QB with this pick is if you are convinced none of them are franchise guys. Which doesn't seem to be the case and likely a moot point given media reporting Texans told coaching candidates we were planning on going with a QB. It's nearly impossible to win a Super Bowl without a good QB. Just look at the 49ers - they are about as stacked as a roster could possibly be but still can't get over the hump. Trading all that capital for Lance was a desperation move that the Texans could easily find themselves in. Finding a good QB ain't easy.
Maybe the team signs a FA that exceeds expectations or trades for a star QB? It doesnt all have to come via the draft. If the big board had QBs at the top of it this year I'd be more comfortable passing up what could be more impactful players for "fit". IF we find ourselves in any position to trade up with a team willing to allow us a shot at either Williams or Maye and you happen to be in the market for a QB after solidifying all the other holes on the roster this draft/FA cycle then you make a Godfather offer and give up whatever you need to and dont look back. We do have great talent in the secondary I agree. Hopefully coaching will shore up Pitres bad tackling and simple philosophy change can allow Stingley to flourish. Our LB corp is mediocre and our DL is downright pitiful. We were one of the worst run defending teams in HISTORY last season.
