So agree, prices out of hand…Noe that you mentioned canes , we are just now getting that where I live in Tennessee plus whataburger is going hard in the area now and having tons of success as would imagine but yea prices make you just want to cook on the grill instead

The one at Main and Texas had been closed for at least a decade if not longer.

The rail ate it and the rail opened in 2002. The others have all gone away within five years except the one in The Park Shops. My first job was at the Subway in The Park Shops way back over 30 years ago

    That's a good resource.

I always assumed a Big Mac was the same price everywhere but I see Big Mac prices vary by a dollar, even in my little area.

I cook what seems like every night and rarely eat out either. As far as fast food goes, it's mainly Chipotle and Five Guys. Thankfully their prices haven't gone up noticeably.

I've noticed grocery prices have gone up, but it seems like meats haven't gone up by much. I think we're being ripped off.

That's awesome for Downtown. The chain has good fries. Other than that, it's garbage.

McDonald's isn't really a workable solution to the problem of homelessness.

But it's a place you can get a burger for less than two bucks. I didn't say it can solve the homeless problem. There are a lot of homeless in downtown Houston.

You ever been to a McDonald's near a large amount of homeless?

Of course. There are other ways to get multiple meals for the same price. Don't be silly.

For homeless people it's really convenient. They don't have refrigerators to keep lunch meat.

I really was commenting on the snobbery of the post. There are people who like the cheapness of McDonald's besides homeless.

The downtown is more awesome because it doesn't have McDonald's was a very elitist statement
A lot of people like McDonald's of all types. Its no big deal but very snobbish

Again, it isn't snobbery. There are equally cheap places that have much better food, including taco trucks.

People are free to enjoy McDonald's. But that isn't a taste that I share.

I go to McDonald's a couple of times a year for the McRib, because ... I have no idea.

Downtown land owners have been jacking rent for many years. It has pushed out many restaurants & businesses and made things very difficult for those that remain.

Even restaurants that have a large volume of customers can't survive in such an environment. The McD's in the tunnels was right next to the place I worked and they got a lot of business.

Other restaurants downtown have had to raise prices to compensate for the rent increase, passing the cost to the customer in an attempt to survive on thin profit margins. When customers don't want to spend $10 on a kolache, they stop being a patron, which a further struggle for the restaurant.

For fast food burgers it's either Whataburger or Five Guys for me, that's really it. The only burger I ever really liked at McDonald's was the Homestyle, but I haven't seen that on the menu in years. The breakfast offerings (McMuffins are made from real egg), nuggets, and fries are all I order if I go there.

Agreed that fast food prices are stupid now. It's supposed to be cheap, it ain't. If it ain't cheap, why even bother?

Crappy meat filler processed burger combos shouldn't be 11 bucks.

We don't do fast food. Back when you could get a big meal for less than $6, yeah, but with the prices, I'd rather just go to a real restaurant. If we're driving around Texas, we may stop at McD's and I will usually get the filet o fish. Delicious.

They used to have that burger that had the meat on the hot side and the lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. on the cold side. That was actually a pretty good burger.

Anyhoo.... this video is oddly satisfying:
