Well he definitely did not say he has told Sengun NOT to shoot 3's then. Its all a matter of context. Alpie has had the short end of the stick at the end of shot clocks which works against him, but how does having his defender camped out inside the arc help things? He needs to be a threat to shoot.
"Sengun is our best player (nobody argues that) he needs MORE usage and MORE green light" The guy touched the ball on almost every possession he was on the court last night! Guy has been running the show since KPJ went out getting 30+ minutes a night and being the main initiator! Who can run the numbers on how he plays vs top defenses or premier centers? Embiid owns his soul right now. He usually disappears and defers vs "good" teams --- THAT is who is going to lead us to a championship? I love the kid. Hope he is with us a long time and he was a draft steal, but being the best player on the worst team means nothing if he cant move the needle and has no killer instinct - ESPECIALLY when he is supposed to be the "best player in the last 2 drafts" The dude was out there yelling at his team everytime he was hunted on defense by Harden LOL cmon man.
He wouldn't say it unless he is explicitly asked. We had hundreds of posts claiming 'Sengun did not want to shoot 3s' and a couple of us explaining here it is a coaching decision (obviously because he shot at the beginning of the season and did not have much of a hesitation and he looked very motivated and suddenly it stopped). And one day silas told it explicitly. I think it is the same with midrange jumpers too. Just like the 3s there are obvious signs. Some games ago he was regularly taking one handed push shots and they stopped as well(which i think was a bad idea for midrange). The coaching staff probably thinks his shooting form has a problem(, to which again I don't agree. Based on how the other players are shooting it seems that the shooting coaches are the problem, also he is doing quite fine on 3s). And they are not letting him until they are convinced he has a good form. This type of oddity, I put easily on the coaching staff. Just like not taking open 3s, when he is shooting at a good rate, and when he should just take them both to open up his game and to improve. I am saying he should, well almost. He should be more inclined to launching 5 3s than 0 3s. If the two options are 5 and 0, it must be 5. Again your last sentence says it is a coaching decision. Because I know the times he looked and he had no problem with it. It is just another episode of Sllas treating Sengun differently, where Bari, Green and KPJ can take 20 shots a game with low percentage and it is never a problem but Sengun should convince the coaching staff before the game to be allowed to take the shots. I know, if you are on the other end, it will sound like a conspiracy theory but I think the signs are very clear. Especially for the 3 pt shot. He is 34.3% above the break(excludes one heave and one last second corner shot-36 attempts) and 37.9% on shots taken with more than 4 seconds on the clock(29 shots) both on very limited attempts, both huge improvement from last year and certainly good numbers. If he is not allowed to take 3s with these percentages, it is very reasonable that he is not allowed midranges either. Edit: I am giving percentages for above the break and excluding 0-4 seconds, backcourt shots because they are more contextual. Those are the shots we are discussing and since he takes so few shots excluding a few shots makes significant difference in %. The overall 3pt % is 32%, which is still a huge improvement from last year and decent.
I don't think even the most die hard SOF would think Sengun is a better shooter than Green or KPJ or Bari.
Now its the coaching staffs fault that Sengun is afraid to attack Embiid??? "The coaching staff probably thinks........"
He has the highest FG % on jump shots. Yeah, they might be less contested or whatever, but shot selection is part of what makes you good (or bad).
Your posts are hilariously bad, keep it up. Sengun attacked Embiid several times. Embiid also shot way below his season averages yesterday.
The context was that the reporter stated that Sengun seemed hesitant to shoot from outside and asked Silas if he had encouraged him to shoot. He didn't exactly say he forbid him to shoot. But from what he said, he definitely indicated that (1) he did not want him to look for shots from outside. (2) Instead he should look to go inside when he's out at the top. This is the coach telling the player what to do in certain situations: Don't shoot from there. Try to go inside.
Yeah I’m not excusing his poor shooting. Silas is right, it’s not his strength. But I thought Silas was pretty clear in this clip that he doesn’t want Sengun taking those shots, so I don’t think it’s fair to blame Sengun for his hesitancy from 3 even when there’s no defender in his zip code.
Did you see the data I posted? He is actually best at making jump shots on the Rockets. And his 3-point shooting is not worse than that of the others, and better than Jabari's. He just has other shots in his arsenal which are even much more efficient.
Yes, as a team option, until the defenses force him to take harder shots, he is the best option. Normally, when one player shoots better, you want to create more opportunities for that player and force the other team to adjust their defense to push the player's % down, which will both pull it down and open up other opportunities. But we are not really trying to use Sengun more so other teams don't need to bother much.
Jabari looks like a total bust at this point. Jalen is good but far too inconsistent to be counted on as a future 1st option. Sengun is the clear building block and clear best player and the fact that the Rockets aren't utilizing him in that role shows the people in charge don't know what they're doing.
Rockets can be getting their ass whipped on the court, and Sengun is still prohibited from taking even an open free throw line jumper? That’s what we’re going with? Sengun’s 1st 10 games he took 105 shots, and just 12 of them were threes…that’s barely 1 attempt a game…that’s more than he shoots at this point in the season, but it was still insignificant…it’s not like he was out there letting it fly with little hesitation These 1 handed push shots were coming from what distance on the court? yeah, u can point to a time here or there where Sengun had an open jumper and didn’t hesitate to take it, but that has never been the norm
I’m not convinced that even if he had the green light that he still wouldn’t be passing up jump shots at a high rate I’m not buying that the Rockets can be getting their ass whipped and Sengun has a wide open free throw line jumper, but is prohibited from taking it
this entire site is just 3 pt culters...they never use their brains its prohibited for them perhaps there was something in the vaxx afterall...
Yes, that's what we are going with. He is not prohibited but he certainly is heavily discouraged. It is not a preferred shot. In preseason he shot 1-2,1-2 and 0-3. And during the season he has two 6 game and one 5 game streak where he took no 3s. How could it be anything other than coaching? The last one came following a 5 game period where he shot 5 for 7. Who stops taking 3s when he is 5 for 7? Kpj think he earns 3 bad shot attempts for every shot he makes, lol. And it is not just 3s. There are many things sengun does well and we just don't use them. The hub thing, the elbow plays, the passes to the cutters also not there. His assist numbers has gone down again, do you think he is afraid to make assists? The push shots were relative closer to the paint. He tried a few longer ranger but they looked ugly and the form was not good. I don't think it is a good experiment anyway, I just gave it as an indication there is something going on there with his shooting form. Sengun taking shots has never been the norm, and the reason is the same. For all this talk, the obvious explanation is Silas is incompetent and more so when using centers like Sengun.
1st sengun can already shoot 2nd sengun rim shots >>>>>>> almost any players jumpers and 3 pointers 3rd why are you so afraid of sengun dominating with taking no jumpers? why so hellbent to finding flaws with one of the best players...more is less... just ask kobe brayant and his daughter... if they didnt have money for helicopter ride they would be alive now.... so yes more of anything, even more of good things, can kill what you already have if only jalen green werent such a good 3pt shooter, he could be a hell of a player.... i cant afford helicopter but unlike Kobe i still can afford to play basketball every day and play it with my kids if you werent such a fan of 3pt cult you may have become a much better bb analyst but you go with the sheep and what everybody else is doing, you cant understand my path of genius and simplicity... 20 years from now you will perhaps understand 3pt, long jumpers is just a fad, a fashion of the times, just like back to the basket was fashion back in the day and is not a must for every bb player
Buddy the way you and some others grab their ankles and hold their breath and then go brat when anyone else has the spotlight for this team is the real comedy. "Best player in last 2 drafts" LOL Good stuff guy - you keep that up too this place needs the levity.
